M2: carb, conventional forks, wider seat, cammed for mid-range X1: fuel injection, upside-down forks, more peak HP, Lots of frame and detail differences, but those are the major ones that come to mind. |

JT: Good to hear from you again long time no type M2 / X1 X1 removable side plate for belt iso service. frame brace is built in. has 4 tie bars. hotter cams more (A little more ) top end lighter crank Tstorm heads [99 vs 101 hp] EFI plastic tank cover no tank paint / decal issues aluminum tail no cracking / paint issues chin fairing as standard. some colors are surlyn body pannels color all the way through. Narrower stiffer saddle not good 2 up stiffer springs M2 forks RSU carbed / with electronic ign no side plate for iso / belt change { bigger job } glass / plastic body possible tank paint issues big comfey seat good 2 up pegs are lower and have a more relaxed positon relative X1 Tach is optional The M2 has the most appealing lines next to the S2 / S1 The X1 has some ugly plastic items that need to be removed. Try both then decide. |

Is it only I who like the plastic? I don't like when bike is stripped of it, makes it look rather thin and fragile. |

I kinda dig my plastics too. It's just a personal thing though, I wouldn't knock someone for taking them off. I agree with Oldog, try 'em both and see which one really turns you on. Some will say beware of the '99 X1's FI maladies and I know you're looking at 2000 but I've had my '99 X1 for eight years now and not had any problem out of the FI. But yeah, try 'em both on and see which one fits best.

The X1 has some ugly plastic items that need to be removed. I love my stock plastics on my X1.Even replaced them with new, clean ones. THe M2 has a fat wide seat compared to the narrower X1 variant.I like this because it helps when clenching my legs in the twisties. |

I liked my plastic but the dumbasses at Boston H-D gutted my airbox and threw out the parts so dirt and gravel was able to get inside where the clean chamber was supposed to be. They also screwed with the intake air temp sensor. anyways.... rant off. An X1 is very narrow between the knees with that plastic torn off. |

you can make a m2 narrower. I have both seats and plastics for mine. I would love to own both, but for now the m2 is a more logical, long distance friendly bike for me. |

I cant say Ive ever seen an ugly tuber, or any Buell for that matter. I heard the FI bikes have a tad more hormones than the carbed ones. If you can swing it, get one of each...ya... that wud be the ticket. |

They both look good, though I favor the X1. There are a number of differences. Rake, trail and ground clearance are different. X1 has larger oil capacity and 10 more HP. Inverted Forks Aluminum tail piece. X1 is just a more aggressive version of the M2. You won't go wrong with either one.

Well now that I've got my M2 mostly the way I want it I'd love to have an unmolested 01 or 02 X1 to fool around with. Depends on what kind of riding you do and how you want to do it. I keep telling myself to make my bike the perfect commuter and just keep trying to go faster in the canyons and track. Stock either one is probably a good commuter, X1 if you are more sport bike inclined. That's what I'd get tomorrow, an X1, if I were buying a stock bike tomorrow... -Mike |

I know guys. I can't stand it. Waiting on funds for the CF undertail. Grovs, the saddle is the Buell " Pegasus" or "Select". No longer available. Found mine right here on the badweb. It is a definite improvement over stock. I never asked a passenger how it is. I avoid 2 up when possible. Only has someone on a few times. |
