I was on Tampa HD's website today and they have two used Blasts. First bike: 2007 Blast 2576 miles. This came out of their rental program. Price is $3650 plus tax title Second Bike: 2008 Blast 6658 miles. Don't have any info on this one as it was at the Brandon store. So, what's a good dealer price on these bikes? Is there a reason to pick a 08 over an 07 or an 07 over an 08. I realize the dealer need to see some profit on the transaction but the cheap SOB inside of me doesn't want it to be a cent more that it has to be. Seems to me that a bike with 2500 miles can't even be called broken in. I'll need to gear up with a good Helmet and a R.E. course too. |

Gross generalization. Evaluate on case by case basis. I can cite examples of great buys (Jim Higgins S1) and great busts (the burnout bike sold as "low miles" . . front tire never moved) X1. |

I went and looked at it last night and it seems to be in pretty good shape. Started right up, didn't make any clunking noises. Could not see any wear on the belt, tires looked good, no signs of any leaks. It rolled nice and smooth and went into gear without any grinding. The only issues I saw were the front right turn signal lens was cracked. There were a few scuff marks on the color panels, and some rusting right before the exhaust pipe goes into the muffler. JerzyDevil, I hear what you're saying but I've had pretty good luck with rentals. The car I had before my P/U truck came out of a rental program. I had few problems with the car and none that were a result of it being a rental. Besides, how trashed can a bike get in 2500 miles? That being said I am familiar with the phrase "Caveat Emptor". So what is a fair price for this sweetie and is there anything particular I should examine before I plunk down some cash? |

Do a used bike price guide search on the internert. Try motorcycle consumer news magazine. They also have a website. The info's readily available - time do some digging... Fair price is if you deem the cost and value are the same. So it's up to you. And "lowballers" suck - I make it a point to cuss them out when they try do that. |

well for example, we sell or riders edge blasts for $2999 after a season or a few depending. most of which only have a few scratches if any and anywhere from 50 - 500/600 miles for the oldest ones.(not a plug, just pointing out) i personally think you could find a better deal, but atleast the ones you are looking at have been dealer maintaned. our riders edge and rental ones get a good going over everytime they come back in so that is worth something when you are looking for a bike also. i would assume others do things similar. (and blake, if you feel this was not acceptable, no hard feelings if you remove it) |

If it was a "Rider's Edge" bike, it was used and abused by people who've NEVER touched a motorcycle before in their lives. On the plus side, you get it with the same warranty as a new bike (and you'll probably need it more)... |

Been thinking this through and I'm leaning toward getting a new one from the Clearwater dealership (Fletchers). 1. When I talked price with the Tampa Dealership there was all sorts of add on prices. Two hundred for a used bike "prep" fee. Then some handling charges. Felt I was getting ripped. 2. The Clearwater dealership runs Out The door specials and the last blast was out the door at $4695. That included all the state red tape. Cheaper with no surprises. 3. Perhaps the most important. The Clearwater shop is just more Buell friendly. Scott would have stood there and talked Buell with me for days on end. They had Buells in stock and prominently displayed. Just sort of seems like I should support some one who supports the brand. Guess I'll wait until Fletchers has a Blast on special and then scarf it up. Just hope it's a black one. |

Only $1K difference between a used rental and a brand new one? I think the choice is obvious. And, yeah, it's good to support the dealers that support Buell. I'd trust a Riders Edge bike more than a rental. The RE bike is supervised, the rental is not. I could see renters ringing the dog snot out of a blast after they get off the lot but the an RE student who was abusing the bike would be quickly stopped. |

Less than $1K difference. By the time they added up all the "fees" and the TT&T it was less than $500 difference for the used one and what I can get new at Clearwater. It just makes more sense to me. I'm not implying that the Tampa dealership is a rip off, far from it. I’ve met several right guys there. It's just that they are a corporate owned dealership, Furman Auto Group, I think. They have their policies in place that they have to obey. This limits what they can do. Plus they are completely focused on Harleys at their three shops. Nothing wrong with that but I can get a better deal at Fletchers and support the brand at the same time. For me it’s a win, win. (Message edited by zane on April 14, 2008) |

If it was a "Rider's Edge" bike, it was used and abused by people who've NEVER touched a motorcycle before in their lives. On the plus side, you get it with the same warranty as a new bike (and you'll probably need it more)... actually, most of the people i know with a blast have riders edge ones and have never had a single problem. heck the last blast the gf had was an 01 riders edge bike that we sold with 11,000 miles on it. i replaced a clutch cable and the original not so good quality rocker box gaskets at 7500. the new one is also a riders edge blast with 132 miles on it. looks and runs like brand new. and as not purple said they are supervised. the most they are going to do is slip the clutch a hair much. and believe me the buell clutches take ALOT of abuse. i guess i would let some one put a hundered supervised miles on something to save $1700! |

They just slowly go around an obstacle course praticing skills of handling a motorcycle. If the Blast hasn't been dropped, I bet it's a good quality used motorcycle and I would buy it! At least you know it has had all the scheduled maintaince work done. |

89rs1200, I put money down on a 04 Blast with 1700 miles on it. It's a consignment bike at the local HD/Buell dealership. Origional price was $2895 and sale price was $2400. It already has Vance & Hinges Exhaust on it. The NADA price is right there SO I feel like I'd doing ok. (Message edited by zane on April 25, 2008) |

Zane - there have been just about ZERO changes in the Blast since its debut in ...what...00 or 01? In 08 they went to Pirelli tires (woo-hoo) and over the years they've had various color changes...but that's about it. The things are tanks - not super-sexy, but one hell of a motorcycle for the money and they are VERY hard to kill. Also, even though you seem to have gotten away from this particular question, our rental fleet is always *over*-maintained - each bike gets at the very least a walkaround and fluid check every time it comes in, and fluid changes ahead of schedule each and every time (because we never know if the "on schedule mileage" will occur during a one week rental...). We've sold a ton of our retired fleet bikes, and not one has come back for any kind of mechanical issue. So for folks who are considering buying a used rental bike: don't be afraid, most are in very good condition. They've just been ridden the way you ride your own bike, LOL. |

Rat: I'm with you. The elegance of the BLAST is it's simplicity. I suspect you could have taken a first year BLAST never changed the oil and still be riding it. There's little to be done, worry about or to go wrong. Design elegance. |

I wound up buying an 04 Blast that was on consignment at Fletcher's HD/Buell. Got treated great there, there really bent over backward for me. Anyway, I bring it home and need to change the back tail lights. Both rear stand offs are broken. It took about 3 minutes per side. Pulled the battery out for charging. There was another 90 seconds. Just looking over the mechanics and how it's put together the genius is obvious. Elegant in its simplicity. I road around the neighborhood just to get the feel of her. Probably not the smartest thing to do since I haven’t been to the course yet and don’t have the m/c endorsement. I also don’t know my arse from my elbow about how to ride any more. It is indeed elegant. ...and if you read this month's Fuell, it's apparently good for about 127 on the salt flats! THAT speaks volumes to me - granted, they must have modified the engine for more output...but it's still a Blast frame in there, and for it to be stable, on salt, at over 125? Wow. That says something for a frame designed to hold a 40-something HP engine. |

We charge $2995.00 plus doc and tax for the bikes coming out of Rider's Edge and they carry the full two year warranty and the plastic gets swapped out for new. The only problem is that we are currently sold out. Oh yeah, we give you a $300.00 gift card with that. |

Hops, Keep me in mind. My older boy just took his MSF course, got his endorsement and is looking to get Blast of his own. He'll be a cash customer by the end of summer.
