See here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/350332.html?1207442985 It's a nice sano solution and a fair amount less expensive than the Buell kit. Al |

Al: Do you know how it controls the heat (resistor or what)? I have a Heat controller that uses PWM. Thanks Neil |

It doesn't. Two independent 12V connections, parallel elements in the grips. Both are on in high, one is on in low. With our kit, the low is run through a resistor, high is straight through. The low resistor path is still in the circuit in high, but it is effectively shorted out. I suspect it'd be possible to wire in a variable resistor or PWM controller in the low path if you thought you needed fine temp control. Hi Al, I have never used heated gear yet but my question is about the resistor. Where is it physically and doesn't it get warm when in the circuit? I think your alternate configuration is interesting particularly as it seems more flexible. Seems like I see reports the factory system can get too hot at times if I am reading the reports correctly. |

It looks like with a little snipping & splicing that can be made to work with Polly heaters on a pre 08 XB too |

Yup, it'll work on the other Buells, but you won't get the wired in ECM controlled relay, or the straight plug into the 12V source like you do on an 06-07 Uly or 08 1125R. BUT, it wouln't be hard, and it comes with the connector you need. I'll explain. On an 06-07 Uly, the main harness as a plug that the cigarette lighter plugs into. If you install one of these right side switch pods on an 06 Uly, it plugs into the main harness where the cigarette lighter plugs in, and then provides and extension of that line so that you can still plug the cigarette lighter in. If you have regular XB, you can cut the connector that comes on the switch pod harness that the cigarette lighter (that you don't have) plugs into. Wire 12V from the battery (Fused and relay controlled preferred) to that connector, and then the right side 12V input connector will plug right into that. So you don't have to hard wire the switch pod onto the bike, you still have a connectorized splice, without having to buy a separate connector. And yes, any other heated grip kits will wire into the 12V grip outputs from the switch pod. The resistor does get warm, hot in fact. I've got it tie wrapped to the fairing stay, we'll see if that works out. Al |

Al does it use the same watts in high and low, I have read that some do and maybe why the resistor gets hot, I have a set of the thin wrap around heated pads but probably use them on my sons ulysses or my blast. Al do you know why Buell went from a 3 phase almost 500 watt 38 amp charging system to a 405 watt 30 amp single phase charging system. Mike |
