Okay . . . so I am about to do something stupid and have been hanging out on a Porsche forum.
Guess what I find . . .
1) A discussion about CONTACT PATCH:
quote:
I have OEM Carrera III wheels/tires about to be put on my CS (with spacers).
I currently have the stock CS 18x9 265/40/18 The new ones are 18x10 265/40/18
Same size tire, larger rim.
So, the question is if and how does the contact patch change?
The real question is do I induce more understeer going to a wider rear rim, same size tire? The fronts are the exact same size.
2) A discussion about BRAKE DUST:
quote:
I've owned Audis, Mercedes, BMWs and Porsches. My Audis seemed to generate the least brake dust. My Mercedes and Porsches seem to generate the most. I've just learned to live with it.
3) There is discontent about dealers continuing to OVERFILL THE OIL LEVEL:
quote:
I would at least call the service manager and complain - they really shouldn't charge you for 10 quarts, when that is clearly too much. I think that part of the problem (at least with my local dealer) is that they just haven't had that many Caymans in for servicing, and apparently at some dealers, the tech doesn't bother to look up the right amount of oil.
I'm pretty sure that the 997s only take 8-9 quarts also, but maybe the older 911s took 10 quarts, so they just have that number stuck in their head.
And a handful of folks complaining about rusting wheel nuts, poor dealer service and opining that Porsche continues to ignore the cries of owners.
So far no complaints about running heated vests or use of "foreign" parts. . . .
If you really want to stir the archives just go onto that Porsche forum and state that Porsche went downhill as soon as they started adding cup holders to their cars.
Or not, maybe that argument has died in history. (Still would like to get me a 1973 911T some day with a set of Webers on it.)
You can't make this up. The hot topic on the Porsche board this morning? . . . you guessed it!. . . . Porsche shipping vehicles with substandard batteries that require long drives and high RPM's to recharge.
quote:
On all my past cars I have taken the batteries out and replaced them with Optima red tops. I had one Last 7 years and leave with the car when I sold it. I haven't seen anyone on this forum that has put an Optima in so I don't know about fitment. But, because of the way the car behaves when the battery is dead, and the relatively short time you can let the car sit, I will be looking into this as soon as I get my car.
