The low has a different shock mount, kick stand, seat, and fork springs. I believe they also have a different length upper fork tube, but I'm not near my manual. All of the seats for the 99+ Cyclones are interchangeable. | ||

Zen or anyone else. Do you happen to have the seat height measurement for a M2 Low? I am looking for a M2 Low but need to know how low it is stock. I imagine it can be taken down a bit but do not want to effect the handling. If I find one it will be for my girlfriend. She is vertically challenged at about 5'2". She has been looking at the Blast but I would rather have a M2. Frank | ||

Frank, I am at the opposite end of the spectrum at 6'7" tall, but in spite of that, I recently bought a 2002 M2 Low that I found in super condition and with low miles. Although the Low configuration handles great and is actually pretty comfortable, I have considered swapping the Low parts for standard ones to make the bike fit me better. The Owners Manual lists seat height as 29.5 inches for the M2L model vs 31.0 inches for the M2. Ground clearance is one inch lower for the M2L so the seat must account for the remaining half inch of difference between the models. Good luck on your hunt for your M2. Dave, thanks for the information. That will help in my search. My girlfriend sits on her Nightster with no problem but I am not sure of the height of that seat but will check. Of course if she can not ride it I do not mind having another Buell LOL. Frank | ||

Dave - My 2001 owners manual lists the seat height as 29.5" for the regular model, 27.5" for the Low. Could there be a difference between 2001 and 2002? | ||

Zen, I see the same (different) numbers for seat height between 2001 and 2002 that you reported but the puzzling thing is that the ground clearance numbers are reported as 5.2" and 4.2" for both 2001 and 2002. This doesn't seem right because the suspension accounts for 1" of difference in ground clearance both 2001 and 2002. I am going to attribute the difference in seat height to a typo in the owners manual. Dave | ||

i read somewhere that in 01 the low seat made it a low, but not until 02 was the suspension altered. would have to check part numbers. | ||

Suspension is different in the 2000-2001 parts book. | ||

F_skinner, I am also fairly short and why I went with a 2002 M2 low when it came available. One other thing that can be done at some cost and helped me a bunch was to either get a narrower seat, as I did, or have some padding taken out on the sides of the stock, fairly wide M2 seat. That allows your legs to be closer together giving you some more "reach" to the ground. You could probably carefully do this yourself. Good to see the girlfriend riding with you. Bob | ||

At 5'-2", I'd go for the low. The only down side I've found to my M2Low is the thinner seat, and that can easily be swapped. | ||

If you can stand the much narrower perch, the 97-98 M2 seat and tailsection on a 99-02 Cyclone will put you even lower than a Low seat. The bodywork is interchangeable between the generations. That older seat is a bit easier to scoop out too, so you could remove a bit of foam to lower seat height a bit more, plus have the sleek lines of the earlier model... While I'm not "vertically challenged" I am much happier with my modified stock S1 seat for easing the reach to the ground. I know it's uncommon but I prefer this seat for long rides compared to the fat stock seat too. |
