I have a 2000 Buell X1 and it will not start. I have checked everything Fusses, Connections and the battery. It will not even turn over.

Not even a click?
Does the headlight and other electricals work OK?
What condition is the battery?
Did you read its voltage?
Did you clean its terminals and cables?
Is this the first time this season trying to start it and if so, was it on a battery tender or trickle charger?

Yes the battery was on a trickle charger all winter. All of the lights work when i turn on the key. The bike is in neutral and off the kick stand and it still will not start. It doesn't even click.

OK. Let's assume the battery is good enough to crank the starter.

These bikes have a starter interlock which means that the starter will work if either conditions are met:
1) the bike is in neutral,
2) the clutch lever is pulled in to the grip.

If it doesn't crank (reading from the manual here),
3) check for battery problems -- we're assuming the battery is OK,
4) not in neutral -- put it in neutral so that neutral light illuminates,
5) clutch lever not disengaged -- pull in clutch lever,
6) there are starter relay problems.

So, if 3 to 5 are OK, look at the starter motor. There should be a heavy duty cable from the battery connected to a stud on the starter motor. Next to it should be a quick-disconnect connector with a small gauge wire that goes to the starter relay. Make sure this connector is fully seated. Pull it off and reconnect it to make sure it is secure. Then hit the start button. There should be a click, loud cranking noises, music from the exhaust and jubilation at this point.

Might want to check the starter relay as well...

Starter relay, age of battery, condition of the trickle charger. Yeah, the trickle charger; I've been seeing a rash of chargers that have not been "up to snuff".

Geoffrey
Check and make sure that the small wire with the female spade has not fallen off the starter. It is below and just forward of the battery cable to the starter.

Just had the same thing happen to my '06 XB12X. After ripping into everything along the line EXCEPT the starter switch, it turned out to just be a little corrosion and looseness on the chinzy starter switches contacts.

A little fine sand paper and a light coat of dielectric grease and its as good as new.
