Just wondered if BMC was consiering putting a 21" front on the X to make it more dirtworthy now that the XT is out. Anyone heard anything, or maybe about any other changes?
I think we need an XA (adventure) with 19" front, chain drive, XB9 gearing, with TKC80's mounted on spoked wheels. Oh yeah, and a conversion kit for us X owners.
My mix used to include mud, off-road (i.e., off paved roads, off dirt roads and off gravel roads)... it would be nice to have that option for those of us 'we's' that enjoy light-duty off-roading.
Just sayin huh - I've probably done as much off-roading on mine as anyone - certainly posted more pics of it - and I've also ridden quite a few 19 & 21 inch wheeled bikes lately.
Without making it super skinny and square profile I don't think it would make 'that' much difference to a uly off road anyway - and it would stuff it on road.
My use of the term 'We' was primarily directed at those of use that actually would like to take the bike off road. Your rocket never entered my mind, Tread.
I think there are two schools of thought with regard to the term off road. One says that off road is actually off paved roads, and consists of gravel and dirt roads. The other calls off roadin', taking a bike off of all paved, dirt or gravel roads - into the wilds.
The Uly was never designed as a true off road bike - I understand that... I get it. I jumped into a muddy stripper cut the first week I had the bike just to see where it stood - it was an eye opening, leg twisting affair, for sure.
I get it, the Uly is really designed for P*SSY off roadin' at best and for those photo-bugs types that think they are really off roading if there is no blacktop around. And that suits me fine, its why I bought it.
But one platform can serve multiple functions, and it sure would be nice to slap on some TKC80's (these really are off-road tires) and have at it... since you see, I am not a kid racer type.
the Uly at the end of the rainbow is a good shot ;) More creek crossings!
*'We' can't cross creeks, 'cause *'we' might get water in our bearings ... geez!
*WE DISCLAIMER...(we, as used herein, applies not to the collective we, as a whole, or in the general sense of the word (i.e., all Uly riders everywhere, ad infinitum), but rather only those of the we, specifically, that might, for whatever reason, be tempted to cross creeks)
I understand what you're sayin JB. There are times that a knobby 21" front tire would help out the uly. But honestly, if it gets technical enough to require me to slow down and negotiate aggressive terrain or mud/swamp then I would be riding something else and the wife would not be on the back.
For me, the Uly is the perfect bike for riding two up in style like on Daves vid. Nice vid Dave, I get wood and want to leave work and ride...every time I see that vid.
Here are a few shots of an 1800 improved surface 5 day trip "we" took last Thanksgiving.
From Miami to Tampa off pavement (around 300 miles).
