I have a Special Ops pipe so I have to keep the servo. Has anybody done this with the kit from American Sport Bike by relocating the servo. I don't really want to hack up the factory air box unless I have to. |

I have a factory cover that i'm not using if you want a backup cover and want to modify yours. Brian |

I may have to take you up on that. I really don't see a way to do the open air box and keep the servo. How much are we talkin'? I've seen them on ebay but never paid attention to what they were going for since I never needed one. |

I will email you some pics of my modified stock air box. All you need are some good shears and some time. |

Just did it on mine. Take a dremel to a stock air box cover. Keep the top section that the servo bolts onto, just cut around it leaving the lip that sits on top of the filter. The only part you have to figure out is how you want to secure. There are two easy methods. Either drill the top and bottom section of the airbox and install threaded rod with butterfly or bolts on either end, or strap it down (if you strap it, run the straps under the servo so you don't impede its movement). |

I thought the standard 07 / 08 air box lid was about as good as you would get anyway? |

Nope it has some small openings on the side. I removed roughly 50-60% of the airbox lid. |

Thanks for the pics Dongalonga. I had mine apart over the weekend and it looks like one of the holes used to mount the all thread for American Sport Bike open air box lid is directly in line with one of the screws for mounting the servo. I am going to attempt to remove the brass insert in the lid and run all thread up through the servo so that both the lid and servo will be held down. I have to wait until I have my K&N and ecmspy ready before I do this. I will take some detailed pics of the process and post them as I'm sure I'm not the only who wants to do this. |

No the holes American Sport Bike's kit uses are from the stok breather hoses in the airbox. They supply you with a breather re-route kit. |

Dare I ask, but what's the servo for? |

I hope you plan on drilling a second hole, becuase the lid will not stay sealed otherwise. You need as even as seal all around as possible. I had the American Sport Bike open air lid on my last Buell. I didnt even like that it only had two hold downs on the back. In a perfect World I would have put a third in the front. I never had any problems with the American Sport Bike open lid but it always bothered me. I found myself checking the throttle body for signs of debris all the time. Any gains from opening it up the rest of the way would be too small in my mind to counterbalance the perfect seal I get on the filter. (Message edited by dongalonga on March 31, 2008) |

Mr2shim, the servo is for the valve in the XB12 exhausts. Dongalonga, when the bike is running it creates suction to hold down the plate. Hell its hard enough to open it a crack when its not running. |

I hope you plan on drilling a second hole Yes, it would be mounted in the same fashion as American Sport Bike's, just that one of the bolts would secure the lid and servo. |

I just replicated Dongalonga's mod for the stock cover, and it works perfect!!! Just what was needed for the SpecOps pipe! |
