I took a 300 mile trip for work it was all interstate and a very windy days both ways. Got paid millage so made the trip even better. The bike was awesome no problems with the wind I averaged 80 and had a blast. However my butt was sore after the ride. Going home the next day I made stops for gas when I didn't need it just to get a break. I am looking into a gel sheepskin before I do another long ride which comes up again in July. Bottom line get some more pad before you do anything to long. |

www.derbycycles.com has the best deals on air hawk cushions, they have a new size 14X14 for 125.00 plus they have a another type of air cushion that looks even better, it is called star cushion and you can inflate both sides and cost only five dollars more than the air hawk, I also think they have like beads and sheep skins. but I have to have looks and comfort so I am getting the corbin from Al at American sport bike. |

I'll drop a line here periodically on the trip. I expect the tour seat is gonna be comfortable enough. I'll be leaving for Texas in an hour or so, just finished steak and eggs. My wife knows how to send this sailor off. Tail bag is packed and on the bike. Saddlebags are packed and on the dining room floor. Time2Roll - (stolen from Neil) Zack |

Me To. I hope to ride the blue ridge parkway and the dragon this fall, maybe Home coming that is up to my son he is the one with the money. My grandmother just had surgery to have cancer removed so I will be taking care of her so that complicates things but she is doing really good and hope to take a few trips before my son goes to college. Zac, which route are you taking down? To bad I didn't setup so we could meet on the road. I was running HWY 50 west all day today. |

I'm on 87 most of the way to I-10. I'm in Amarillo for the night. 487 miles and I have to say, the tour seat is excellent. I'm beat and typing on my phone is annoying. More tomorrow. Z |

How much clearance have you got between the saddlebags and rear tire? Might just be the camera angle, but those look awful close... |

I made it to San Antonio around 7:30 local time. Last hour of the trip EVERYTHING was green. Texas Wildflowers are starting up. Very intense. It was 39˚ at home today, I think. I had to take off my down vest and chaps, it was still hot. I did almost 600 miles today and my butt doesn't hurt a bit. That tour seat is more comfortable than my Heritage Softail's pillow seat. The position is another matter. I fixed "numb right hand" by holding the throttle with my left hand, every now and then. Legs would get pretty pissed after 30 or 40 minutes. I took them off the pegs and let them dangle behind me. Probably looks weird, but it worked. After a steak and some wine, I'm ready to crash. Loretta has 4181 miles with more to come. She slept as well as I, last night.

Zac when my back or legs started getting sore I would hook my feet over the rear pegs, lean back and hold the bars with just my finger tips. Really felt good. |

Yeah, I used to do that with a Yammy XS11 I had. Loretta has no passenger pegs, since my wife won't get on that "tiny thing". Been a while since I did a "long ride" but i feel a LOT better than I thought I would. I'll say again how wonderful the tour seat felt. I really want the windscreen to go higher, will re-visit Bratmanrider's method. Pegs need lowering, will look into Lightning pegs. That's my "long list" of LD problems. Z |

Hey Zack how does it feel riding the bike in warm weather, I think it might hit seventy this week here in Boston. if you want more wind protection go on www.saeng.com they have what is called micro swirl edging which I am going to try, they also have a attachable windshield that you can tilt for comfort either to keep the wind up or to get the wind down to hit you on a hot day, they have it for the firebolt so I would assume that would fit the 1125R, they have some really good products, fist I am going to try the micro swirl edging and see how that works. Anyway I hope you are enjoying the ride and how do you find the handlebars for touring? I also want you to know you can tighten the slack out of the throttle to a point that the throttle sticks but can be returned to idle by twisting the grip, I use to do this on the ulysses while riding, but the R is hard to do while riding so it works like a throttle friction look or screw and you just have to twist it back, try it when you are parked and with the engine off and just unscrew the cable adjuster until it holds the throttle in an open position and it is easy to just twist it back to idle, worked great on the ulysses but have not done it on the R. Anyway have fun and be safe. Mike |

I have SAENG bookmarked, the edging may work but I think the "add-ons" don't quite look right. Handlebars aren't bad, I have long arms. The angle is what bothers my wrist and hand on the throttle. Never found a setup that doesn't have this problem. I learned many years ago how to run throttle and stay out of the ditch with my left hand. I put some aluminum bar-ends on and the right one is fairly tight against the throttle. Friction holds it a little, so I don't have to grip it tightly. Most of the time I have my hand laying on the grip instead of my fingers curled around it. So far, so good. Just finished cleaning several pounds of bug-guts off the fairing and my helmet. Time to head south to my folks' house. Z |

Throttlemeister or some other method of clamping the throttle works well to relieve the right hand on long rides as well. My BMW was great for long rides. When wanting a different leg position, I just used the jugs for highway pegs. |

Thanks Zack I did not expect a reply so fast, I am trying to figure out if I should getting handlebars that are higher with some pullback or leave it stock, what do you think?. Doerman I seen the Throttlemeister and like them and plan on getting them, I have seen highway pegs that come out of the jugs on BMW boxers. Mike |

The Throttlemeister (IMHO) is a must! The "s" pegs are $25 and make a good change. I'm working on the Convertibars as an alternative to stock. I have the Convertibars installed (the fork clamps) and I am waiting on longer hose for the clutch and brake lines. They should be in by the weekend for me to play with. Zero-Gravity is working on a revised windshield. Timing is TBD. I have used the Saeng edging and it only makes about a 2-3" change in airflow. I guess if you are tucked in completely, and have air issues, the edging may help. If you want more than 2-3" of change in the airflow, you will need a windshield change. Time4Lunch Neil S. |

Neil I have a chance to get a triple tree made that will give me one inch up and back but I do not know if I need it or want to change the look of the bike. I am sitting down trying to come up with my plan that I am always revising, anyway keeps me busy thence I can not ride, I just crossed of micro swirl edging but thing the quick scan mirrors are good, I put a regular mirror were I would put them and could see real good, Much better than the stock mirrors, I figured that I will try the traction grips, but I really need to go on a long ride and see how I and the bike does, I have ridden to the dealership and back no problem and that is 220 round trip, I want to be able to do 500 miles a day with out a problem. Zac, you may have already said, but what type of saddlebags are you using? Do you think they will scratch the paint. That has always concerned me when it comes to saddlebags on a sport bike. And it seems that the ones with some kind of plastic film to put on the bike to protect them would be a pain if you took them on and off often. I mean, would you just get a supply of the film and put it on and off as well? I have so much to learn. Dan |

Dan look at my bike I have the saddlebag straps under the plastic so they do not come off but will not ruin the plastic either, plus nobody can rip them off because of the way they are attached, they did come with the a sheet of plastic stuff. |

Zac thanks for the report. My main concern was my legs. It was a great report. Sounds like it was too much fun. 1. for those out there the swap with the S pegs gives how much more room? The main reason I asked about distance was for my legs. Like I said I want to be able to enjoy life after a ride. 2. I read on Corbin site that they said leg fatigue on a sport bike was actually due to people sliding forward because the seating and having to push themselves back. Caught my attention. Any thoughts? 3. Surprised at your comments about the shield since Buell is really touting its wind tunnel design. Can you give us more detail on why you would want to raise it? Too much buffeting? 4. Zac just for comparison if you don't mind how tall are you? |

Mike: What do you expect to pay for the new top triple clamp? At least with the Convertibars you can adjust them to your liking in many directions (~$325 a group buy with 15-25% off is a possibility). Do you think the brake and clutch lines may need to be longer (about $100 for the pair)? Time2Work Neil S. |

Hi Neil around 250 and I do not think I would have to get new cables, brake, or clutch lines. I have seen the convertabars and not sure I like them but they are very adjustable. Mike |

I have the fork clamps installed on the fork legs. I am waiting on the longer brake and clutch lines before proceeding. I can't really move/ mount things up without the longer lines. Thanks to Bratmanrider, he has pioneered a lot of the detail. Neil S. |
