Stock Dunlops are never soft (relatively speaking). If they are truly 8 years old, I cant believe they havent dry rotted or cracked. They must have taken very good care of it.
In rare instances, tyres can degrade and become very soft. Again, I've rarely ever seen this though and its usually caused by something else than just sitting around.
They arent the best tyres for the Blast. Pirellis are a vast improvement in ride and traction as well as (though I have no Blast Avon experience) the Avons (or some others).
Though, if still in good condition they arent dangerous, Dunlops just arent the best on a Blast.

Personally, I'd never run anything but a Pirelli (or possibly an Avon or Metzler) on the front of a Blast. But dain bramage and a $60,000 hospital bill is strong motivation!

I should probably clarify. The tires are not soft, the ride feels soft. The bike was garage kept for the whole 8 years. When I mean garage, I mean that it was climate controlled. The guy had a number of Harleys and one was from the 40s or something. I have never seen a bike that was kept in such good condition. I am a neat freak, but this guy was meticulous about keeping the bike in good running order. Before he sold it to me, he changed the fluids, changed the plug, and battery. The back tire looks like it has 300 miles on it, but it rides soft--for lack of a better term. I should probably just replace the tires. I am most likely being paranoid or whatever. I am not used to a Blast. The last bike I owned was a Honda Hawk GT. I loved that bike. I can't wait to ride the Blast some more. The weather is going to be crappy all weekend...so I will stay off of it until the weather breaks and/or I get new tires. Thanks for the tips.

By not being dangerous, I mean good Dunlops arent. As EZ said, old rubber especially in bad condition are.

New Blasts are not soft riding. Older and/or worn Blasts are. Perhaps thats why it rides soft. Depends on your weight too. Did you check the tire pressure?

Yes, tire pressure is good. Everything is in order. I can't wait for the weather to clear up and I can get on the road. I just read the Blast FAQ on this site, there is a lot of good info there.

Zensmile,
You will thank us when you put the Avon Vyperstryke tires on. The larger size 110/70/16 front and 140/70/16 rear make the bike feel so much more stable, and it just turns the Blast into a totally different bike. You just have to clearance the lower shock tab on the swing arm to get some clearance it can be done with a heavy drift and large hammer or even be cut off.
You will really notice the difference.

Just thought I'd bring this thread back on topic.

Pay no heed to the missing ignition cover. It fell off.

Sand the rust off, and apply a coat of wd40 once a week - andthe exhaust would last forever - the wd40 acting as a protectant. You could always use Rustolium BBQ Black paint - if you want black.

Did the ignition cover take the belt with it? Does your right leg push on the air cleaner?

Billyo wins! I was going to ride it around the yard to wash it, and the belt broke. Got a new one yesterday, so I'm back on the road. I'll be repainting the pipe when I do my Spring Fluid Change.

Billyo: The air cleaner fits comfortably in the crook of my knee.

EZ: It was originally painted with exactly what you said above. I'm making repainting it part of my Spring Maintenance.

It's the Givi A750 or the A755. I forget which.

Swampy! I'm working on an "Air Drive" to complement my other endeavors.

Rustoleum BBQ Paint! You'll find my post somewhere around here when I first got it, back when I posted under Joey. For giggles, I painted the exhaust tip with appliance acrylic. It's all apart in my garage right now. Hopefully I can have it put back together for a ride by tomorrow. If I painted the white K&N oil filter black, have I gone too far?

The Stock Mirrors tend to fall off, or so I was told. Find something you think looks cool they can be inexpensive.

Those are probably the tires, but on fast sweepers and rainy days there is a difference - Buell should sell one for the Blast, but though Al of American Sport Bike is behind a bit in the manufacturing process, I have heard that he hasn't stopped, and will be producing more - when is the question - my suggestion would be for a group of Blastards get together and see about him producing enough for a group buy type of thing - you could go right to his page here on the BADWEB and start said subtopic - I'm sure if he saw enough folks requesting - he'd speed up the time line. They are good folks there.

Hi guys, long time no post but I need some help.
I'm going to upgrading my tires soon and I've decided to go with the oversized Avons. My question is, can I run these tires by doing the lower shock tab mod and still retain all the extra plastic at the rear tire? Will the oversized rear tire rub on the black plastic fender? I would like to retain this fender for functionality, and call me crazy, but I kinda like the look as well.
