I saw one of these at a gas station over the Easter weekend. The rider was pulling out so I did not get a chance to talk or look up close. I can say this thing is stunning in person. It looks nothing like the other trikes made from Honda's or Harley's. BRP Rotax has some creative people thinking outside the box. I do not think I'm ready to stop leaning in the curves. Maybe some day. http://spyder.brp.com/ |

I'd like to try one. I've always loved sea-doos and ski-doos, why not a road-doo!! Ony now that I've written it down I know why they didn't use that name.... |

That's why they call them spyders instead of dogs. |

If you like three wheels and still want to lean, what about the Piaggio MP3? Visit: http://www.piaggiousa.com/ (US link) Up to 500cc... and, some ladies love 'em (for themselves, that is! ) T. |

If I'm going to do three wheels, I'll take the Carver for those rainy days. Or days I don't feel like suiting up. www.carver.nl |

I was told that HD is being payed royalties by BRP for using HD's suspension design. HD's trike has been in the works for a while. I saw renderings last summer at the PDC. |

Harley has had their "spyder" design around alot longer than BRP. Made me look...! http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/06/01/harle y-davidson-leaning-trike-patent-application/ http://hubpages.com/hub/Revolutionary_Harley_Trike _Has_2_Front_Wheels_That_Lean |

So it weighs 800+ lbs and you can't lean.... Why can't I just get a set of blinkers for my quad. Makes more sense. |

While I was in Tucson recently, I got a chance to ride a spyder. It was very strange. I never got used to the fact it doesn't lean. The owner of it is about to get a new one. His has had 4 recalls, and several break downs. His was one of the first off the line, but still it has a lot design issues. The brakes being the biggest issue (most of the recalls involved the brakes). These issues were important enough for the manufacture to send out someone to pick up the trike. They were TERRIFIED you would ride it with defective parts. This certainly was not a "Next time you bring it in we'll fix it" situation. My thoughts on my ride. It only has a foot brake, no hand lever. I would consider this a real safety issue, as you naturally try to grab the lever, and nothing is there. The front end it really susceptible to road imperfections. It steers very heavy, and any road imperfections pulls the trike one way or another. Seating position is surprisingly tight. You sit upright on it, but you feet are really tucked up under you, not the most comfortable position if you have long legs. It has plenty of power, it is not an R1, but it will outrun any 4 wheel vehicle. Coming from my buell the transmission was quite smooth. I would say it is a neat toy, but it need a second generation that is less aggressive. It would make a great touring toy after that. |

If you're going to get a trike, get a MAN'S trike! http://tinyurl.com/2gaseu |

I demoed a Can-Am at Daytona and I found that the power it made coupled with the steering made it scary for me. I have my buell gpShifting so I had to force myself to stop shifting the way I was use to. At low speed it turns like a go-cart. Once we got going pretty fast you have to be careful because it still steered like a go-cart and at higher speeds the suspension would compress and pull you off to one side as a bull would to buck you. They did a good job training us before we went out on the public roads for me it wasnt enough. |

Steering it is very much like riding a jet-ski. Not at all like a motorcycle or snowmobile. All of your turns etc. require the application of throttle so if you are always accelerating everything is fine. let up on the throttle and it will get twitchy. None of this is optimal for street riding where you have plenty of good reasons to be slowing and steering at the same time. My nephew and I got to take a couple out on some lonesome two land paved roads and they were an absolute hoot. Once you have to deal with traffic, gravel on the road or a crowned road the story gets scary. I would never buy one and I certainly wouldn't recommend one to anyone. I would borrow someone elses in a heartbeat tho. |
