Have any of you had a problem with the clutch not releasing properly? I have a new cable and release bearing/plate that are both adjusted properly per manual. After aforementioned repairs, clutch worked perfectly for 2 years. It started as an intermittent problem and now happens every time I come to a stop. Bike has 50K miles. I am thinking ball/ramp assy. Has anyone else with higher mileage bikes experienced this? Thanks in advance! |

When's the last time you lubed your clutch cable? |

I haven't, since it is new (replaced at 47-48K miles). |

I've seen an aftermarket chrome clutch cover get a hairline crack so the cover flexes when the clutch is pulled in. |

If that is the original clutch assembly the Spring plate may have failed. Joe |

My clutch lasted exactly that long and failed with the same symptom as you describe. The little brass rivets from the center "spring plate" jam into the adjacent fiber plates. It's retard-simple to do a clutch on one of these bikes at least |

Thanks for all the info. Don't I need a spring compressor to access the clutch? |

Yes: also 2 steel and one fiber plate to replace the spring plate, assuming that no other major damage exists. (Message edited by oldog on March 26, 2008) |
