So, now that many of you have some miles on your bikes. What is your observed gas millage now? How many miles do you get on a tank before the reserve light comes on? |

I've got 2200 miles on mine. I tend to run about 32mpg combined city/highway (commuting). The best I've gotten is 36 which was on back country rodes at 55 mph (driving like an old lady). The worst I've seen is 22 when thrashing it, but then again that was in the first 600miles. |

If I fill to the top of the bottom lip, I can get 150-160 miles before the light comes on. In warmer weather, not filling quite so full, 120-130. Riding style varies mpg a little but not much. My Avg is still in the low 30s. Going on a long trip down to Texas this week or next, I'll get numbers then. Loretta has just under 3000 miles now. Zack |

I've not been tracking mine. The computer says it's getting about 30. I can't seem to get that to move, heavy or light handed on the throttle. The bike has good range. I'd put the tank at close to 150 miles, with the reserve light not coming on until at least 110 or 120. |

I track my mileage on a program I bought from Aerostich - For Two Wheels Only. The bat bike is the fourth bike I have tracked with it. Over the first 2330 miles I have averaged 33.6 mpg. My lowest tank, in early break-in was 30.1, my best 37.6 mpg. I am an aggressive rider, but I don't stay in the high rpm range, as you might with a more peaky I4. I think that mid 30's is a reasonable expectation for this bike. During mid-speed cruising, say 55 mph, instantaneous mileage will be in the 40's at steady power and level road. Cruising at interstate speeds, 70+, instantaneous mpg is high 30's. As a comparison to my other bikes: Aprilia Caponord - 42mpg, Honda VFR800 - 40.2mpg, Buell XB12Ss - 47.1mpg. None of these bikes gave near the performance of the 1125r. Moral of the story - no free lunch. Commuting drives the mileage down a little, as the bike is in the richer, warm-up mode for a greater proportion of the ride than, say, a Sunday afternoon romp in the country. Now that my riding patterns have stabilized, I can expect 34-37 mpg on a typical tank. Mileage should continue to improve over the next 5000 miles or so, but I doubt that I will ever see 40 mpg in normal riding. I am satisfied with the economy, considering the power that this bike delivers. Jack P.S. (edit) The best range I have seen to the low fuel warning light is 150 miles. Before I turned her in; I was getting 24~25mpg, commuting street (40miles/wk) and highway (150miles/wk) It would barely creep up over 100 miles between fill ups. On my last ride to the dealership I mustered 31mpg, that was all freeway. I have found that mileage would tend to be about 2mpg higher at 5~6k rpm then if I was in a gear higher (don't remember what rpm that would put me into). One thing that has bothered me... Why did they incorporate an MPG gauge into a bike that they expected to get poor gas mileage? It seems rather sadistic. |

Riding style will have a lot to do with mileage. I can not recall ever having to stay in lower gears to maintain 5-6k rpm in traffic. The bike squirts just fine at 4k, and will respond well enough at 3500 to maintain traffic position. The tranny is so smooth on this bike, that quick downshifts are a piece of cake - even double downshifts. A huge dose of additional response can be had in that way, even as you are rolling on power. Everybody has their own style, and all of us can articulate reasons for it. But, if you feel you have to be in that higher rpm range, expect to pay the cost in fuel mileage. Jack |

After 4500 miles I don't pay much attention to avg gas mileage any more. It is somewhere between 33 and 38 depending on what I do. I have a more important criteria and that is range. I can safely go 140 miles before I need to think about a fill up (with gas to spare). That's what's important to me. I almost bought a Honda VTR1000 in 99 but bowed out when I learned that the range could be less than 100 miles between fill ups. That kind of range was not (and would not be today) acceptable to me. |

Jack, I think I made a mess of what I was trying to say... I used to get better fuel efficiency at 5-6k rpm then at 4-5k rpm (or whatever it is one gear higher). This is cruising on the highway, and the increase was roughly 2mpg. (Message edited by interex2050 on March 24, 2008) |

I range 33 to 38 depending on how i feel that day. The mileage seems to be better at hight rpms though which surprised me. |

I took a trip last week of a 600 mile both ways. I got an amazing 38 mpg running 80 5k rpm. The bike really likes that speed seems to pur made me smile as well. The bike was great the only problem was my poor butt. It felt like someone used a board and nailed me good. Now looking for a padded sheepskin |

30 MPG consistently in mixed riding. Fuel light comes on about 110-115 miles. Too scared to push it for max range, but do the math and it should be about 150 miles. |

Is it bad for the system to completely run out of gas? I can imagine sucking air can never be good, but has anyone actually run out of gas on purpose? And how hard is it to start after such an event? just wondering |

You get a fuel system error code. The bike recovers fine. The error code disappears after a while. have a beer. At 3045 miles, I have 34 mpg average That includes a lot of idle time doing electrical/temperature tests. Better mileage than I expected from this mmonster. Z |

Before I got the Torqure Hammer and tune I was getting a consistant 37mpg. After...I get around 33-35mpg with an aggressive riding style. |
