anybody removed the pins from a ULY Windshield. I have the palmer brackets and have to remove these pins - don't want to screw them or the shield up during the removal process. |

Just put your fingers around one of the pins at a time and pull hard. That means pulling on a corner of the windscreen with your finger under the screen around the pin. They plop out but you need to exert quite a bit of force. |

So from the back of the windshield, pull on the pin nipple. What happens to the quarter sized cover on the front of the windshield. Does the pin seperate from it and destory it? |

It's fairly easy, take the flyscreen off (undo the 6 torx fasteners)and work the rubber grommits out from behind (a bit of lubrication may help but I found it easy enough without). Strong fingers or a screwdriver are all you need. Good luck. Edit: Ah,you're talking about the clear wind sheild pins, sorry,I've not had any experience with them-I thought you meant the lower part attached to the instrument binnacle. I'm sure someone'll be along soon that can help. (Message edited by hoon on March 17, 2008) |

I am sorry, but I must be confusing on my description of the problem. I have removed the windshield from the flyscreen. The standard windshield has 4 pins that pop into the 4 rubber grommits on the flyscreen. When using the Palmer Brackets, you have to remove the 4 rubber grommits and then the 4 pins from clear Lexan windshield. Then brackets are bolted to the FLyscreen and the window. So my problem is in removing the pins from the windshield itself. |

Pins were easy by pushing with pliers. Grommets were a b!tch. Cut them off. |

My hands hurt, but I got the grommets out. (I type for living so my hands are wimpy). I used some liquid soap to lubricate the grommets and pushed them out from the front to the back. |

Sorry but wish I'd seen this earlier, I soaked the cowl in the sink filled with hot water to remove mine. Also, pushing then through around the edge with a blunt instrument can work. |

I just did a grommet transplant yesterday. I found WD-40 and a pair of needle nose pliers to be the trick. |
