Was a warm day in NEPA today and went to start up the X1 for the first time in about 2-3 months. The last time I had it running there was o problems and when I was done I parked it in the garage. Only this time I bought this cheap thing that looked like it would work like the batter tender jr. http://www.pacificbattery.com/batterycharger.html When you turn on the key, nothing happens, no lights or noise. I checked fuses and checked the battery with a DVM. I don't know if I was doing it right but I set it to DC V and it read 13.4V with the key off. I am guessing I smoked the battery by keeping the thing hooked up and maybe someone else can tell me the same before I go and by another battery. Thanks |

How old is the battery? Maybe it was already good and dead forever before you put it on life support... |

Wouldn't the battery be fully charge if the DVM is reading 13.4 V? |

Voltage is one fairly good indicator, but you can have full voltage and still have a broken battery. |

Found the problem, bad ignition switch. I will have to visit the dealer tomorrow. Has anyone replaced one before? Just wondering if you are able to get one that fits your key so you don't have to replace the seat latch also. |

Brian They can get you a switch that is keyed to your bike. At least they did for my 99 S3. |

Ok I just put on a new ignition from American Sport Bike. I spliced the wires onto the old connector. Now when you turn the key to Park it turns on everything, and when you turn it two clicks you can see the little parking light come on in the headlight. Will this hurt anything or must I just remember that Park is now Run and Run is Park? |
