I put a new battery in my M2 for spring. Having taken off the exhaust heat shield on the right side, I think it looks better without it. Anyone else take it off? am I going to roast my leg? I guess Ill find out on my own soon enough (still on the cold side to ride, for me), but I was wondering if anyone else had experience already. thanks, Ken | ||

Ive removed mine too, but havent tested her out yet. From what Ive read, it doesnt make a whole bunch of difference. | ||

pulled mine years back. Its far worse at red lights, but no noticeable difference once I'm rolling. Sure looks better without it, imho, always looked like an afterthought.... | ||

I tried removing mine years ago and my leg got roasted on the short ride I took afterwards. I put it back on, but noticed years later the race kit header I polished and installed emitted much less heat. If you polish the rear head pipe to a high gloss with Mother's, it makes running without the heat shield bearable. I don't have mine on now and my leg barely notices it. Try it, you can always put it back on. I really like the way the bike looks without it. | ||

Mine hides a couple aftermarket relays and has a switch through it... so it stays. I did lose one of the screws and clamps though. Any of you guys that removed it still have a screw and frame strap clamp sitting around? Maybe bring it to MB5? | ||

I still have a carbon fiber one from American Sport Bike I removed. Once I had my headers coated the heat was not an issue. | ||

Yeah, I'd say with the later model pipes sure, mine's been off for several years and I'm never burnt my leg or anything for that matter. I like the cleaner through look it gives the bike when removed. With the earlier pipe design probably not. | ||

I put mine back on after roasting my leg on a long trip. I've wrapped the pipe since but the shield is still there. TT | ||

Its still spring, but Ive ridden on a couple 75-80 degree days without any heat issues. Then again, my other ride is an 1125r, so maybe I dont notice the heat after riding the 11! | ||

Mine came off years ago. At my first full track day (after my Intro 1/2 day), I lost one of the exhaust clamp nuts off my rear cylinder and didn't know it till I developed a very loud noise. With the heat shield off, it's a lot easier to make sure the nuts are tight. | ||

I wear chaps and I can't tell one way or the other. Mine's been gone for a while too. Even riding in town with traffic lights and stopping alot I'm getting nothing for heat. |
