my brother in law, an I.T. guy, "fixed" my computer, but in doing so, wiped out it's ability to play DVD's. I was able to rip and burn DVD's and watch them before he repaired it.
I had Nero before.
Anyone have a suggestion as to a program to replace it with?

Any idea what he did?

I'd try a system restore to a point before he "worked" on it first myself.

Then I'd try to uninstall NERO and reinstall it.

I've use NERO for years and never have found anything that runs on Windows I like as well.

You might just need to install codecs to play DVDs.

Videolan does a great job of transcoding as well (except when it doesn't).

He probably upgraded to Windows Media Player 11 which does not include the DVD (MPEG2) decoder codec.

Guess what?

Yep, got to spend money.

I switched from Nero to DVD fab, it's WAY easier and much more reliable of a burn
