My girlfriend is a 98 M2 and it always pukes a lot. Mostly white stuff with about the thickness of a quarter of oil floating on the top. I just rode back from daytona to palm harbor (160 miles) and the breather tube catch can is full of oil (couple shot glasses worth). only a tiny bit of white(condensation). I know that these things dont like to be filled quite as high as the marker indicates. My dipstick doesnt even touch the oil right now but i can see the oil level when i lift off the cap. I have probably put 400 miles on this bike since I bought it and never had this type of result in the catch can. I guess I'm just wondering if i should be alarmed or what and if anyone has any ideas whats going on or how to fix it? Bike has been nothing but a pain since i bought it (just like a girlfriend). About to redo the top end on it if I don't get some suggestions but i would really prefer not to eventhough im sure it would run 100X stronger since its never been done (guessing about 12,000 miles on the bike since it doesn't have any gauges). Fortunately, I have a 2000 m2 as well so I can alternate while this one is down if the news i get is bad. Appreciate your input. Thanks |

Is the oil line from the pump back to the tank ok? If it has a kink, the oil might not be pumped out of the engine fast enough. I would suggest that you pop off the breather tube from the catch can and run the engine. Watch the hose for smoke and put your finger over the end of the tube to see how much volume of air is coming out. If you have smoke coming out of the breather, it might be time for some rings. |

I am not sure that its not primary fluid. How would I be able to tell? I will also try natexlh1000's suggestion about checking for a kink and popping the breather tube |

It would only be primary oil if the tranny vent is routed to said catch can. Do a compression, AND leak-down test, before performing unnecessary top-end work. Diagnosis is good! |

The text is a bit technical here, but it is a good explanation. Basically, a leak-down test is pumping air into the motor, and seeing if the cylinders are air-tight. If not, you'll know where, and can fix the parts that need it, with out fixing parts that don't. Compression is an "overall" approach. Like your regular checkup at the doctor, it will tell you IF something's wrong, but not WHAT. Before I forget, pull your dipstick out when performing a leakdown test. If the rings are leaking, the excess crankcase pressure will blow the 'stick, and oil, everywhere. A great party trick, but not cool at home. http://www.xs11.com/tips/misc/misc3.shtml |

I dont know what that is supposed to mean? that one of my cylinders on each bike will blow? are you speaking from a personal experience or something? |
