Just received my new Drummer, I will be installing it tomorrow, I know Kevin builds a great pipe just from feedback alone. I was just wondering how many guys are running just the pipe, who's done the Race ECM, remap, catch can etc.

What were the results with the pipe only?, with ECM, with remap with catch can, you get the Idea, always like hearing from the fellow Buellers on stuff you guys have done, you guys are certainly the best recsource. Kevin says just run the pipe and save the money on the extras and I believe him completely I just wonder if the extra stuff is worth it or not.

I bought the Drummer mostly for the sound but certainly want the extra power as well, anyway I'm starting to ramble. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

running the pipe, race ecm, k&n filter, 07 airbox, and a catch can will be coming......I'm tired of cleaning up the oil on the bike. I wish I could tell you what kind of difference it made but I bought the bike in its current state. I do love the sound. I work only minutes away from kevins shop, and have met him through a mutual friend. Great guy with a great product. you should be pleased.

Does the bike show a fault when you use the Drummer and remove the servo?

I went with the whole 9 yards right off the bat: Drummer, Drummer Catch Can, American Sport Bike Remap,Open Air. I'll say that absolutely love this set up. Here a a few observations:
-A bit of decel popping until the engine is completely warm.
-Much smoother and stronger pull through the entire RPM range.
-MUCH better drivability in the lower RPMs. Handles at 2200 RPM like it used to at 3200ish.
-I keep checking the catch can, but it really hasn't had much to catch (only been 2 tanks or so).
-The bike now sounds and runs as badass as it looks

Oh, I'm also running the servo emulator from Al, so no fault, no check engine light.

06 XB12SS, stock ECM, Filter, with the Drummer. I bought the bike this way. I haven't been able to put many miles on it yet, so it’s hard for me to give a good opinion. I also have a Race ECM I pulled off my wrecked Uly, so will throw that on and do comparisons to see what feels better with it. My Uly was race pipe, race filter, race ecm, catch can, open airbox. I was overall happy with it, but it did have a deadspot at about 3500rpm. The limited experience I have with the drummer on the XB12SS, it seems to have better low end, but due to the cold I haven’t been able to wring its neck yet.

I am interested in the Drummer on an 08 model with no other mods, it's my understanding that there are no remaps anyway....

Good feedback so far, I thought if you leave the servo motor connected even with the cable removed the check engine light won't come on am i wrong? and Ulyrider where were you cleaning up the oil, the airbox? sorry if thats a stupid question.

I have noticed a little oil deposited in the airbox but very little.

No, you're right. If you leave the servo motor connected (even with no cable) the check engine light will not come on. But...the open airbox conversion removes the inner air box cover completely, thus no servo motor. It's just a wide open air filter with a plastic cap securing it down. Clear as mud?

Because my Uly had the Race ECM, I totally did away with the exhaust cable and junk. My SS with the Drummer and stock ECM has the cable and junk still attached. I guess the valve is flopping away in the wind or something, i haven't checked.

I had a Drummer and Race ECM and ,while it did perform better, it was much too loud. Went back to stock pipe/ecm with '07 airbox. Very happy with overall effect.

What catch can and do they only leak oil with the drummer or do I have something to learn. My 08 has only 100 miles so far.

A catch can is a container bolted (usually) to the oil cooler where re-routed breather hoses terminate in order to catch any oil or water that otherwise would have been ingested by the engine. On a stock bike, those hoses lead directly into the airbox, so any excess "stuff" goes into your engine. I think it was Ft_Bstrd who said it best about re-routing hoses "its kinda like swallowing your own dip spit...you can do it, but its probably better not to" (or something like that). Now, you can re-route your hoses without a catch can, but all that excess oil/water will drip everywhere...enter the CATCH can. It's also claimed that re-routing results in marginal (as in probably only noticed on a timed track) HP gains. No, a Drummer or any aftermarket pipe will not cause an oil leak. Hope that makes some sense.

Looks like I'll have to follow through and get the Drummer for my 08. The new fast ass computer raises a lot of questions. I have yet to hear of any viable solutions for reprogramming or adding a fuel controller. It seems like it really wants more gas on the bottom end. Time to go into a mad scientist mode!

I LOVE MY DRUMMER. I have had one on my City X since a month after I bought the bike. I love it. I have the race ecm, K&N and the drummer. Marriage made in heaven.

Thanks fella's it's 7:30 Sat. morning and I'm heading over to my buddies house, I'm going to install the Drummer.

I am also thinking about installing a ceramic coated header as well but I have never rotated the engine. I know I can do it but I have limited time this morning so I will have to see. I figure about 1 hour If I do just the Drummer and about 2.5 hrs. for rotation, header and can. I CAN'T WAIT!! I'll try and post later if I have time, if not I'll let you know how it goes later.

Well I went ahead and installed the ceramic coated header and Drummer, for me rotating the motor was a pain in the ass especially when you consider about 3 hours of wrenching to access two header nuts JEEZ!
That being said I'm glad I did it. Man the Drummer is LOUD I hope I get use to it a bit louder then I expected.

After the Install I didn't have much time to run it in for the computer to get aquainted with the new pipe but something scary happened and I wonder if anyone else had this happen.

I was running up the highway about 3200 to 4000 rpm for about 5 minutes everything going good then I jumped on it and took it up to 100mph when POW! and the bike dies so as I coast off the offramp I'm like WTF just happened? the bike wouldn't start so as I am cussing myself out for a few minutes trying to figure out what was going on I hit the starter and she fired up.

I cruised home about 2 miles and put it away. I had plans so I couldn't mess with it. I hope it was the bike hadn't adjusted to the pipe yet and cut itself off, I am going to take it out now and see what happens. I can understand running bad until the bike adjusts to the pipe but to just quit??. I will let you know how it goes.

Yep the drummer is loud. I am sure it will settle down a bit in time, but it will always be loud.

It sounds like your Bank Angle Sensor made the bike crap out. What month/year was your bike built? There was a recall that went out about a year ago for the BAS, they relocate it to right behind the break light.

My bike is an 07 so I don't think it's the BAS but that's sort of what I thought as well, I also thought maybe I didn't connect something properly after the engine rotation.

Just took it out and ran pretty good no dieing just some decel popping (expected) seems like the bike is still a bit off but should improve as the bike learns the new pipe.

Cool sounds good. Just check and see if your BAS is up near the accessory plug. The first few months of the 07 models had the BAS in the old location.

The BAS is relocated near the tail light so don't think that was it and I checked all the different connections all looks good. I will take it out again tomorrow and see what happens.

The bike seemed really hot yesterday with a funky smell and some smoke coming from the header and Drummer, I just passed that off as new parts,paint burning in??

I also had one on and I did dyno before and after. 1 HP gain and less torque at 3000 to 3500 rpm. It was too loud for me I sold it on ebay in about 5 seconds. I have gone back to the stock pipe. My Uly has always run perfect for me.

By the way I talked with Kevin several times about my pipe and he was a great person to deal with. Absolute peach of a guy. I just didn't like the noise so there was no point in doing the ecm and intake tricks.

I just did the full boat: Drummer, American Sport Bike open air box kit, remapped ecm for the combo. I also did the XB9 primary kit. I have yet to start or ride it yet so I will repost here when I do. But I am excited...

I also did an econo drummer, the whole process was easy and professional. However I found it too loud and so did LEO, had to take it off. I am toying with the idea of either selling it or trying modify it to get more of a "thudding" deep ducati sound as opposed to the blatty "harley straight-pipe sound"
Great pipe though, looks better than new after Kevin is done!

Wow, so I installed the drummer, open air box kit, and xb9 primary gearing.... WHAT A CRAZY HOOT OF A RIDE!!!

The roads were real sandy and when I took her out but wheelies are too easy now, she pulls cleaner from lower rpms, and the sound is amazing. Earplugs required for any highway work! I wish I didnt have the popping on decel but oh well....

Highway revs are higher but I like it.

The Decel Popping is an easy fix. You can use ECM Spy to either add or remove fuel from the bottom couple rows of the fuel map at the RPM areas were popping occurs. I decided to add fuel...and no more popping!

Is there anyway you could be a bit more specific as to the rows you altered? I FINALLY got ECM Spy up and running today, and am anxious to tackle the Drummer Decel popping issue. Thanks for any advice.

Josh,

Mainly you need to add fuel to your bottom two closed throttle rows, especially where you have popping, probably between 3000 and 6000 RPM's. Do the same amount of increase for each square on the rear cylinder as you do for the front cylinder.

I don't know if mine is perfect, but at least there is zero decel popping now.
