the hd synthetic motor oil is said to be ok, certain EP additives can attack the stator varnish |

I use Redline lightweight shockproof oil I got from Al at www.americansportbike.com in my S1 and like it. I don't know if it is synthetic or not. |

AmsOil not only works well, it makes the transmission shifts smoother. http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/mcv.aspx |

I would stick to HD primary oil. Make sure to check/adjust primary chain, these tend to get neglected and can make a big difference in the shifting and driveline smoothness. |

Oh GOD! Make it stop... FOR THE LAST TIME -- THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH RUNNING SYNTHETIC OIL IN THE PRIMARY!!! There are some reported problems of using GL-5 gears oils in the primary. Simple solution -- just check with the oil manufacturer. Amsoil, Mobil1, Royal Purple, Redline, etc all have excellent oils that you can run in primary. I highly recommend Mobil1 15w-50 for the primary -- it is also a GL-4 gear oil. Instead of listening to the oil rumor club you should check with the oil manufacturer. They actually have Tribologists on staff to answer all your questions and applications. |

Amazing to me how after all these years of ICE that the manufactures if not ASE refuse to put some decisive data out to the public. What we have had so far is not properly formatted or made easily available to us common people. Joe |

I use only Sport-Trans. I am not one to reinvent the wheel. You will see that your owners manual insists on it, they make no brand specifications for engine oil. |

"Oh GOD! Make it stop..." That which frustrates you has kept me off this board for many moons. It seems to be more common here than some other boards. I struggle with it too. |

"harley phased out sport trans recently." Is this true, or is it just a local dealer that stopped carrying it? |

I run Syn3 with no issues in both my tubers (23k mile daily ride S2, and 5k mile S1W 'toy'). Lighter shifting in both too - preload speed-shifting is no problem in either ;) |

Sport Trans is dead...well, kinda. They now call it/package it as Formula+. I don't know if it's a different blend or just a new name. But I do know if you go in and ask for sport trans fluid this is what you get. It's also what is now in my primary FWIW. |
