I stopped by Thundertower HD/Buell outside of Columbia, SC (I go by it about once a month) and was amazed to see TWO custom-painted 1125R's on the floor. All red:
Blue/gray two-tone:
(radiator covers and some other parts painted to match the frame). Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, all I had was my camera phone. Pretty cool to see a dealer doing this kind of stuff. (Message edited by hughlysses on March 02, 2008) |

Too bad their billboard doesn't say Buell on it. On my way to Buelltoberfest last year I saw their billboard just listing Harley-Davidson. After I passed the dealership I saw that they had a Buell sign on their building. If I knew beforehand that they carried Buell I would have stopped in. Just how a dealership expects to sell something they don't advertise is beyond me, 1313 edit: But, I should mention, GOOD on them for putting forth the effort they have with the custom painted 1125R's! the red one is WAY to much red for me. not really liking the fact that the front of the scoops is red also. but they must have tore that thing all the way down to paint the frame and swingarm |

looks like the second one shows some promise (yea the pics do kinda stink) but that red...yeck, reminds me of hillbilly motors "hellbender" lightning, whose paint job i've never appreciated either |

I wouldn't be surprised to find that those bikes are already sold and the colors picked by the owners. I can't imagine a dealer repainting new bikes just on the hunch that a potential buyer might like it. Jack |

"the red one is WAY to much red for me. not really liking the fact that the front of the scoops is red also. but they must have tore that thing all the way down to paint the frame and swingarm" That's exactly what I thought about the scoops. As far as painting on a hunch, it got them mentioned on BadWeb, didn't it? Enthusiasm is good advertising. |

Here's my opinion. If they did those two bikes on their own, then they have ruined two fine pieces of inventory. Again, IMHO. But, as they say in the car business - "there's a butt for every seat." Jack |

The red is a little too much red for me, but the wheels look like xb12SS pieces. I think they look OK. Just nothing like I would paint my 1125R that I don't have. I don't like frames of any color except silver or grey, on xb/1125r. |

Well, I like them. I might not have painted the ends of the scoops red. Other than that I think they are great. |

Yes, that is very surprising to see some custom painted 1125R's at thundertower, now I have to make it up there to check them out. I wouldn't call the first one red, looks more like the color of my bike which buell would call it "sunset orange". Personally I wouldn't have painted the frame and swing arm. The second one looks great, but I would have to see it in person. |
