I have an opportunity to pick up a 07 scg that has been down lightly on the left side and through a fence, for $5000. It only has 3500mi on the clock and the damage is light and easily repairable. What does everybody think should i buy it and use it for track duty or should I look for something else. Also I priced the parts that are broken and its probably only going to cost $400 for the parts and I have heard it run and it sounds great... thoughts? |

So all together you're looking at $5400 for an 07 cg that's just barely broken in. Add a couple hundred more for some Crossroads bars and it would be a great track bike. Just make sure nothing is bent or warped like the forks, frame, swingarm, etc. I think a test ride would be mandatory before buying. (Message edited by metalstorm on March 02, 2008) |

Personally, and this is of course only my opinion, I'd save your money and find a better deal. You can pick up a used 03 for cheap and still have money left over for track goodies. Or, if you need the XB12, get an 04 for about the same cash. It may even come with some aftermarket parts and you'll know nothing is tweaked from the fall. Then again, if the title isn't affected, and the fix really is that cheap, maybe just use it as a street bike? |

Oh, and forgot to mention. The xb12scg is lower to the ground. I don't know if this will become a clearance issue, but I'd think about it. Plus, if you pick up a bolt, the bars are a little sportier. Of course, I did take my stock Lightning to the track with great success. But IMO, more aggressive bars are a good thing for that bike on the track. |

LOL -- well, my 'bolt is looking for a Scg suspension to swap so I say you buy it and trade with me, but I'm kinda selfish like that! ;) Just kidding -- seriously, I would save your money and go with a non-wrecked bike because you never know what may have been tweaked in the crash. Get a used 12R and have a blast on track day. Good luck! |
