I thought I would just pass on my episode. Near the end of summer, went over a fairly small pothole at about 15 mph and I hear a loud crack and my bike starts vibrating like crazy. I was only a couple of miles from home so I just limped it home very slowly. I now take a good look and see the front motor mount is broken, and has snapped one of bolts flush in the head. Work was done on all the motor mounts and the isolators needed to be replaced, some refabricated as they were damaged. Buell recommended a different front mount. I don't understand why a minor impact, could take take out all the mounts. I guess maybe they where loose? I know the rear isolaters were good. oops, should have posted this in old school, 99x1 (Message edited by garryb on February 29, 2008) |

I replaced my rear isolators a month ago.(99 X1) They were twisted open and caused a horrible vibration at 2k rpm or so. All other mounts were fine. This bike has been slammed hard many times with wheelies cut short.............unuf to blow the fork seals(repalced last year). I blame the isolators for going bad from a few nasty wheel hopping wheelies. I'm surprised there was no other damage. Bike still looks and runs perfect with no out of the ordinary "feelings". |

Be glad your head didn't break as well. Happened to me. The mount itself was actually ok, the head and one bolt broke. NRHS has a great billet mount. The rear isolators were probably ok until the front mount bolts broke. They're not designed to handle twisting in that manner. |

It was going way before that small bump, it was just the straw... I broke mine at the drag strip, no bump, just smooth pavement... |
