U4euh,

I don't know of anybody in the "naked bikers of TX" meetup that's planning on going, but maybe if your dad came out for a ride and talked about MBV some people might get interested!

Although the group is intended for "naked" bikes, we do have regulars who ride a Kaw and a Duc with fairings, and last week somebody brought a friend on a Ninja, so we're not THAT hardcore about the "naked" thing. Tell your dad we ARE friendly, and he's welcome to come meet up and ride (with fairing & bags attached, LOL!), and IMO we could use somebody to give us the lowdown on MBV!

Looks like the next NBOT ride on Sat. March 8 will have good turnout, and would be a perfect time for him to come out!

U4euh, there have been 2 rides that sprouted up since my last post, so the March 8 one wasn't really the next one, but now it is, unless somebody puts another ride together for this week - tell your dad he's got to check that site every day to keep from missing anything!

NBOT's Yankee Lunch Run

When
Friday, March 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Where
4 corners Shell
Hwy 249 at 2920
Tomball , TX 77375

Who should come
Anyone who wants to ride some twisties, have lunch, and then ride some more!

Details
We'll meet at the 4-corners shell, gas up, then head over to Hufsmith, up Hufsmith-Dobbin rd., and take 149 Spur/1488/149 past the outskirts of Magnolia. Then Jackson rd. up to 1486, Mariah rd. around Dobbin, and back on 1486 up to Johnson rd.

In honor of Andre's new XB12R, we'll take Johnson rd. over to the fantastically scenic & twisty Bethel rd., follow Bethel to 1097, then down to the wickedly twisted Bailey Grove rd., and over to 149.

We'll run up through the forest on 149 - voted #1 forest road in "Ride Texas" - and follow the NBOT "Great Northern Route" (tm) up through Richards to the usual fuel stop in Anderson, and then up 90 & 244. We'll pass the 3090 turnoff and continue on up to Carlos, where we'll stop for lunch at Yankee's Tavern. This establishment is legendary among riders in this part of the world, and I'd like to see what all the fuss is about! (Newbies note: Although this is a "tavern", NBOT is not a barhopping group - we're stopping to eat lunch, not drink it)

After what I am confident will be the best lunch we'll have all month, we'll head back down to 3090 and enjoy some twisties for dessert! Continuing onward thru historic downtown Navasota, we'll take 1227 past Navasota Raceway and on down to hwy 6, then jog up to 2988, and on eastward to Whitehall.

At Whitehall we turn south on 362, beginning the final leg of the ride. After the long & lazy scenic curves of 362 we take a short run on 1488, then the Hegar/Joseph/Kickapoo/Hegar combo brings us on down to Magnolia/Nichols Sawmill rd., which takes us over to Roberts Cemetery rd., which leads on down to 2920.

Those who are pressed for time may choose to peel off at that point, but I will be heading down Mueschke to Juergen, over to Cypress-Rosehill, and down to the fantastic tight turns of the Fenski/Cypress Church loop, back up C-R to Grant, and over to Kitzman rd. for some more turns. The ride will end at A.E. Dyess Park, which looks to be a good place to stretch legs, defile porcelain, and plan our next ride!

Google maps shows a total 4 hours 11 minutes ride time and 153 miles, but I've noticed that the time estimates are often a bit on the slow side - I figure we'll roll in to the park about 3 or 3:30, unless we take a nap after lunch or something...

Hey Houston Buellers,
Got a request. I'm doing some research and thinking about buying a vehicle on-line and it scares me to think of paying that much for a vehicle sight unseen. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of or done business with Texas Direct Auto. They say they're in Missouri City just south of Houston. Just wondering what the local word is on them down there before I make plans for a 1126 mile trip. Thanks in advance for any info.

Any Houston Buellers want to school me on the area? I'm being offered a pretty nice job there and know nothing about the largest city in Texas, or Texas for that matter. I'll be relocating from New Hampshire.

Thanks,

PM sent, Road_thing.

I'd like to get an idea of where I should to live, hang out, etc. I'm a little worried about crime and city living, since NH has little of both. I've spent plenty of time in Boston, but it doesn't count for a city in my book.

the best twisties I've found are northwest of town, but there is nice riding in other directions once you get far enough out.

Some of the commutes are terrible, some are ok. What part of town is the job in?What kind of place are you looking for? it's my understanding that real estate here is cheaper than many places, so ... BOOSH!

It has to be one of the two locations listed at that link. I haven't gotten much more information since NH has been dealing with a state of emergency due to ice storms. Sure looks FLAT down there!

Those two spots are SW and SE Houston. If you end up at the Stafford branch (SW) Sugarland is nice, and there's still plenty of reasonable houses South on 59 in good neighborhoods. The stafford area itself is pretty rough though. The other facility is in the Clear Lake area. Don't let the name fool you...it's a mud puddle. It's a pretty decent part of town though. NASA is there, and there's an Air Force base. Most of the major businesses there support the aerospace industry. (Boeing, USA, etc.) You should be able to find a 4 bedroom 2 car home for somewhere in the $130K range in the Webster/Clear Lake area. Actually less with the current housing mess.

Here is a good real estate link. This site lists the vast majority of homes on the market in the Houston area. You can search by price, # of bedrooms, school district, etc.

http://www.har.com

Downtown Houston is about 20-35 minutes from both of these locations, depending on traffic.

CALL TO ACTION

Friends:
The First Marine Division Association Scholarship Fund, Inc., (FMDASF,Inc.) a recognized 501c3 public charity, is engaged in a nationwide effort to raise public money for scholarships for the sons and daughters of service personnel KIA or rendered 100% disabled due to service to country as well as to raise funds for the construction of a new Fisher House at a major military installation. As a part of this effort to raise funds and to raise awareness by the public, the Scholarship Fund is sponsoring an Ocean-to-Ocean Motorcycle Honor Run in late August led by Guinness Book Motorcycle World Record holder, Mr. Dave Barr. The ride will originate in California in close proximity to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton (Camp Pendleton is not involved) on a southern route that will come through Texas with a stop in Dallas/Ft. Worth for a fundraiser and a stop in the Houston area for a fundraiser and BBQ on 15 August 2009 at the Kaiser Ranch in Waller County and will end at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The Honor Run will then depart Washington, D.C. and take a northerly route back to California with fundraising stops in between and culminating at a fundraiser headlined by CSI New York's Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band at the Oakley facility in Foothill Ranch, CA in Orange County on 5 September 2009. Operation Military Embrace, Inc., the Houston Chapter, First Marine Division Association, Inc., and the Lone Star Chapter of Wind and Fire are co-participants in the fundraising event at the Kaiser Ranch on 15 August.

Part of our program is the purchase of 1,000 3' x 5' American flags by supportive, loyal American citizens to be flown along I-5 by Camp Pendleton in Southern California to raise the public's awareness of the sacrifices made by America's service personnel in defending freedom. California's CalTrans will not permit the American flag to be flown along its state right of way that fronts I-5 because they would then have to allow the Mexican flag to be flown, the Iranian flag, Russia's Hammer & Sickle, etc. (only in the California are the Mexican flag and flags of Communist countries held to be equal to Old Glory!!!). Patriotic Californians and Americans domiciled in other states have contributed $20,000 toward the flag flying event in California and they have challenged Texans to equal or better their contributions. Texas is not hostile to the American flag under which so many fine Americans have secured freedom for others around the world and I ask that each of you go to the following web link to make a $20.00 donation, or more, toward our objective of defeating California! www.firstgiving/texasflags We will fly the American flags purchased by Texans at the Kaiser Ranch in Waller County at our fundraiser on 15 August. You are all, of course, invited to attend this fundraiser and BBQ located at 29968 Jeff Smith Road, Waller County, Texas 77484 starting at 11:30 a.m. There is a local Honor Run (motorcycle ride) associated with our event and check-in for the Honor Run motorcycle and other participants will begin at 09:30 a.m., the ride will commence at 11:30 a.m. and will return to the Kaiser Ranch by 2:00 p.m. for the serving of the BBQ. There will be plenty of non-alcoholic refreshments and time for good fellowship. Texas provides a highly disproportionate number of the courageous patriots who call themselves United States Marines and Texas provides a total of 10% of the selfless patriots serving the United States military across all branches meaning that Texans willingly carry the load and do the heavy lifting for much of the country. Additionally, the fabled First Marine Division was founded in 1941 aboard the USS Texas, therefore, the great State of Texas and the First Marine Division are inseparable. Texas is the home of the historic 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood and the history books are full of tales of the exploits by the 36th Infantry Division in WW-II as they began their campaign through Italy in September of '43. Texas is also the home of some of the nation's most important Air Force assets and operations. We would like to show the rest of the country how much America's military and their families mean to Texas and the flying of these beautiful images of patriotism and freedom will demonstrate to the rest of the country that Texas and those bold Texans who have served and died for freedom across the globe hold and recognizes Old Glory as the highest symbol ever known regarding the defense of freedom around the world. The FMDASF will remove the flags following this event at the Kaiser Ranch and they will be taken to our beautiful war memorials in Washington, D.C. and then returned to those who request that the flag purchased in their name be returned. This will be wonderful national publicity for Texas and a reaffirmation of Texas' support for the those who guard and protect America and who have liberated millions of others around the world who were suffering under the harsh boot of totalitarianism.

And, to all my Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard comrades in arms, this is not a Marine exclusive event. This event is to honor and recognize the service of all who currently serve and wear the uniform of the United States and all of those who have previously served in the uniform of the United States in service to God and country. It is to all services and to all veterans that this event is dedicated. Please come join us and ride with your respective colors on display. Thank you for your selfless service to our country.

Note:
This is an AMA sanctioned ride and it is also a national Wind and Fire event as well as a national Patriot Guard event.

Please distribute this Call to Action to your friends and associates to engage Texans in this challenge.

Semper Fidelis in Jesus Christ,

Jerry P. Reed

We had a pretty good turn out. I think about 600 people attended and we had between 50 and 60 bikes in the ride. It was HOT! Got a pic of Dave Barr on my Uly and he did seem very interested in the bike. An outstanding man.
