How about a quick fix of turning the low beams off when you run the high beams? tHE 1125r HAS a wonderful lighting system. Previous Firebolt owners rejoice! I would hate to see it compromised as part of any fix to the electrical system. Fix it right Buell. |

FWIW... Looking at ebears great cutaway photos from the 1125r, I only see two wires coming out of the stator assembly. That suggests it is a permanent magnet system with a two phase output. Which would be closer to the tubers, not the XB's. So I suspect its a simple shunt style regulator as well. Permanent magnet systems are (in theory) less flexible in terms of the power they put out, but are more reliable, then variable field strength systems (where instead of making a fixed strength magnetic field with permenant magnets, you make a variable strength field from a magnetic coil). Bikes that share this type of setup include my KLR-250, the Rotax powered BMW 650, and many many others. Bikes that have a variable field strength alternator include the BMW Boxers, and most cars. Anybody have a parts manual? I wouldn't be suprised to find out the 1125R and newest Uly share the same voltage regulator part (as I think the XB's went back to a two phase system). If the voltage regulators are the same part, we know a TON more about them. The stators are no doubt different though, as the engines are completely different, and the Helicon spins twice as fast. Also, FWIW, at an unnamed event, talking to... well... somebody you don't know (especially if you are one of our valued visitors from HD legal), I got some very frank talk about how the 1125r's did in terms of reliability for the inside pass events. They were doing *very* well, except for some charging system issues they were trying to work out. Is the Helicon charging system reasonable and reliable for most sportbike roles? Clearly, yes. Is the Helicon charging system having some issues on some inside pass and customer bikes? Clearly, yes, as would be expected. I had a charging issue on my new XB9SX (that was solved by pulling the battery ground, cleaning it, and reinstalling it). Can the Helicon charging system be overloaded? Clearly, yes. As can any charging system (otherwise Court would be out of business, and Manhattan would be powered by a fleet of R1's with big wires). Were there teething issues with the Helicon and the charging systems? Yes. Though we don't know that they are any better or worse then any other bike. Can good dealers work with Buell to sort these problems out really quickly and get an 1125r with a problem completely fixed? Clearly, yes. Can Bill spell permenant correctly? Sometimes, when he notices the little red underline in his web browser. He rarely bothers to fix it though. Is it annoying to have a brand new bike have some kind of issue? No doubt. There! We can probably all agree on those points |

Reepicheep I read online and in the owners manual it is the three phase charging system. Mike |

Part numbers from the 1125R parts manual: Voltage Regulator - Y0302.1AMC Stator Assembly - Y0442.1AMA Also looking at the illustrations, there appear to be 4 wires in the wiring harness running between the Stator and the VR. |

Spectrum if they are four wires would one be a ground wire and 3 hot wires because of it is a three phase system. I am trying to learn about charging systems so any info would help. Mike |

Mike I have no idea I'm not an electrical engineer and these are not wiring diagrams, just illustrations of the parts. |

Thanks Spectrum, I think it is from what I have been told but not sure, I am trying to understand the charging system so I know if it working right or not. Mike |

Reep, The Buell factory guys that worked on my bike told me that it is 3 phase, with a shunt type regulator. Jack |
