Hey, I saw a thread earlier but dont know where it made off to. You guys were talking about Lyndall brake pads and how they "fix" the pulsing when braking. I have stock pads and my bike has been "pulsing" for a few months. Annoying. So, I went on Americansportbike.com to try to find them and could'nt. Only found the Nissan brand. I then called American Sport Bike and I got this poor guy with laryngitis on the line. He told me the part number but I must have mis-heard him. Does anyone know the part number of the Lyndall front brake pads on American Sport Bike web page so I can order them? AND, do these brake pads fit on the stock brakes or do I have to buy the whole thing??? Clueless on this subject.... Thanks for your help. |

That would be me with laryngitis...it's been a rough couple days. I've completely lost my voice, most of the day it alternates from squeaks and squawks to a low Barry white impersonation, but by the end of today, it was nothing but a mousey whisper. Sorry for hurrying ya off the phone, Cindy, it's getting kinda painful to talk by the end of the day. Sounds like you found what you needed. From what you described, the Lyndalls should fix you right up. thanks, Al |

"I have stock pads and my bike has been "pulsing" for a few months." I hope the pads solve the problem, but if it's been going on for a while, they may not. I went through TWO front rotors before I switched to Lyndalls (I'm on my third rotor now). The first two rotors were horrible warped and I couldn't figure out why. The only thing I can deduce is that the rotors glazed in one spot more than another with the stock pads and the constant pulsing over time must have done them in. I haven't had the problem at all since I switched to Lyndalls (and a new rotor) for two years now. I hope the Lyndalls solve your problem, but if the front brake has been pulsing for a while, the rotor may actually have warped... like the first two I had. Good luck! |

"That would be me with laryngitis..." You should start charging by the minute for conversations... like the psychics and phone sex companies do. Hell, you already have my credit card number. |

I prefer EBC HH pads ^^^+1^^^ I have used the ebc's exclusively. when I got the Uly it had Lyndalls, IMO they SUCK! I have never had brake fade ever, till I used the Lyndalls, I almost ran right off turn 2 at Little tally(1.4 mile 9 turn) from the fade. I ended up using the rear brakes on the track keep competitive times. |

I haven't tried the EBC HH pads. I will probably try them next. I really like the Lyndalls. I haven't had them fade. Then again, I replaced my fluid with higher temp rated fluid. I did have the stock pads fade. I like the Lyndall's because they are nicely progressive. I'm sure the EBC pads are as well. The only problem I've had was one set of Lyndall's developed a squeal during braking. There was plenty of life left in the pads. It was weird. |

"I have never had brake fade ever, till I used the Lyndalls..." Charlie here is a special case (there are others). I've never ridden with anyone that brakes deeper than he does (on the street) so I can imagine the heat he must be creating on a trackday. I wouldn't recommend following too closely if you ride with this guy... I did once and got the great pleasure of watching him dive into a corner with the rear tire hovering just above the pavement (it was on a SV650 during MBIV) and catching traction just in time to make it. I don't know if my rear tire was off the ground (it sure felt like it) when I dived in behind him, but it was the most agressively I've ever slowed down for a corner on the street. For mere mortals like me, the Lyndalls work just fine on the street. For Charlie... well, he's Charlie. |

If my rotor was warped wouldnt there be lighter and darker patches on it where there was contact and then not. OR can you not tell just by looking at it? How would I know? Just put the new pads on and see if that fixes it I guess? |

FYI: EBC HH's are cheaper and no break-in. |

I had dark spots just after the holes in the rotor. I've been told that I should avoid holding the front brakes against the rotor at stops. I use the rear break to hold the bike now. |

FT, I'm running the EBC HH pads and some BelRay Dot 4. Even with my ass on it, I'm stopping pretty well. |

DJ, I am flattered! Your no slouch either, you were right behind me! I've been told that I should avoid holding the front brakes against the rotor at stops. While sitting still after a stop and keeping the brakes applied you will create a hot spot. I never had any issues. OR can you not tell just by looking at it? You really need a dial indicator to tell you. I have had rotors with dark spots all over and they stopped just fine. New pads should cure ya! |

FT, I'm running the EBC HH pads and some BelRay Dot 4. Even with my ass on it, I'm stopping pretty well. I like the Lyndall's. If the EBC HH pads are better and cheaper, sounds like a good combo. I'm running the top end Honda Dot 4 in mine. I hear that the EBCs don't last as long. I guess that's the trade off. |

I have to apologize to Al, but I had some monies in my paypal account and scored some on Ebay for $32.00 shipped If you have acess to a machine shop, they should have a table that's perfectly flat and would be pretty easy to just lay it flat and check various points with a straight edge (Message edited by Thumper74 on February 27, 2008) |

Cindy - when you get the pads, swing by the shop and let me know how they are. Ras is having the same problem (I think its his ratty-ass front tire myself) but he says he already runs the lyndalls....just curious if the pads fix it for ya |

I had a similar issue with squealing Lyndall's. I think it went away but, then again, it's been so long since I've ridden, I forget. |

The Lyndalls are great on the STREET, minus the buzzing. But, for the track they fade to quickly, for me anyhow. |

I've had both types fade on me. I guess I'm a little bit aggressive at times. I'm gonna try the higher dot rating, thanks for the tip. Just in time for MB-V. |

I'm gonna try the higher dot rating, thanks for the tip. Make sure you stay with the DOT rating for our bikes. I'm sure you know, but just wanted to make sure. I believe DOT 5 will eat your brake lines. |

"I believe DOT 5 will eat your brake lines." Not true at all, DOT 5 is very easy on everything. You could wax your tank with dot5 and not hurt anything. Do that with dot4 and you won't have much of a tank left. But you should not use DOT5 in ANY system that has previously had Dot3 or Dot4 in it, as they are completely incompatible and will cause no end of problems if mixed. Dot5 is silicone based, dot4 is glycol I think. Dot4 is a highly chemically active substance. DAMHIK, Mix it with chlorine and you get a seriously exothermic reaction (and a big cloud of chlorine gas). There is also a Dot5.1 that is closer to Dot4 than dot5. I have no idea who comes up with this stuff... But back on track here, I wouldn't recommend the Lyndalls as a serious track pad. They will fade when pushed to serious limits. But for most folks, they'll never experience it. I'd say that 80% of our customers love them, 20% don't. There is more a more progressive harder-you-squeeze-harder-you-stop feel to them that the more digital sintered pads don't have. But some people LIKE a hair trigger brake feel, others don't. Try all of them, find ones you like, stick with them. I like the lyndalls a lot, but I'm not much of a track guy either. Al |

Thanks for the tutorial on brake fluid. I didn't know why, I just knew that DOT 5 was bad. I do like the digital feel to the Lyndall's. I could also see where having a little less feel but a crap load of initial bite could be attractive on the track as well. |

Race use only.... they got to be good.... don't they? They most likely suck when they are cold. Thats the tradeoff. |
