An STT tail swap. How hard would it be? Have I lost my mind? |

Have I lost my mind? You dare ask that? Is there something you don't like about your tail? I remember reading threads a while back about owners wanting the Uly tail on their STT for the luggage mount ability. Mebby there are some lying around? |

Ft_bstrd, if you are serious, let me know. You got me wondering now. My Lightning Long is almost the same tail as the STT, the difference being the color of the paint. http://s2.bikewalls.com/pictures/Buell_Lightning_X B12STT_2008_05_1024x768.jpg vs http://s2.bikewalls.com/pictures/Buell_Lightning_L ong_XB12Ss_2006_01_1024x768.jpg I got both seats, and both the passenger pegs and number plates. http://froggypwns.com/images/LightningLong/2008-2- 12/slides/IMG_2193.JPG I will be at MBV, so perhaps if we did the swap, then would be the best time and place. |

I will be at MBV, so perhaps if we did the swap, then would be the best time and place. I think it would take more than 15 or 20 minutes. I saw a Uly with an STT tail on it and really liked the look of it. Losing the luggage would be the biggest loss, but I don't really use it that much. I do two, maybe three trips per year with luggage. I rarely carry more than what would fill one side case. I don't know. Just thinking. |

As i was gonna say, but CityX said it for me. I am planing on getting that setup for the luggage, as it will work with the OEM H&B bags that i have off my Uly. |

So there is a kit that will allow the use of the H&B Uly bags on an SS, TT or SX? That is the ONLY potential downer I could see in making the swap. Where do I get one? |

CityX recommended me the guys at MotoInternational.com , so i shot them an email. They told me they can order the brackets and that it will be about $300. I do plan on getting them, just that i am a little broke at the moment |

Ft_ and Froggy; I'm in the middle of putting Hepco & Becker hard bags on Terri's Ss. The H&B mounts are for an S and don't work on the Ss. I've been in touch with Eurotech (the U.S. Distributor) and they've been in touch with Germany. We've taken pictures and sent them on, but it will probably be a little bit before new mounts are made for the Lightning Long. H&B say their mounts will fit the Long, but they're wrong. As soon as we get the bags mounted, I'll post and let everybody know. |

Cool, thanks Crusty. Ft_Bstrd, another concern would be suspension. My SS has the adjuster under the seat. I know from others that the Uly tail will bottom out, but I am not worried about that. My concern is the adjuster for the Uly suspension, as that is on the side. |

My understanding was that the bottoming out problem was for going from the S or SS to the Uly tail not going from the Uly tail to the S or SS. Am I mistaken? |

You are correct. I meant that I would had the issue if we switched, but then i could correct it with the XT suspension |

Having done *EXACTLY* the opposite you want to do, there are some things you may have not thought of, the number one roadblock will be your fuse block. Take a look at a lightning fuse block, and battery box. It's quite different. Where the Uly is a rectangular shape, and the lightning is square. There are some other differences, such as the rear master cylinder mounting, rear brake line(The STT is shorter). I'll have to search thru my pics and try and rattle my memory of what else you'll have trouble with. |
