Well, picked up a new bike yesterday.. 08 Nightster... I was going back and forth between that, and the Road King... Didnt like the test ride on the Road King.. And the Sporty... felt RIGHT. Anyway... seems thats gonna become the daily, put 81 miles on it today... could use a tad more padding in the seat.... and some damn slip ons.. but, great other wise, looks MUCH better in person than over the web... I love the nightster, couple of guys I ride with has one. I'm modeling my bike after that look, bought several cans of rattle-can black this week. Gotta get rid of all that chrome on my sporty. Ken |

I agree that it is a sharp bike. Everything I have heard is that it is an uncomfortable beast to ride though. I guess your opinion is different. |

Congratulations! I've always liked the looks of that bike. I always have to look at one when I go to my local dealer. Enjoy your ride! Bob |

I guess your opinion is different. Not really... Yeah, right now its pretty uncomfortable to ride... That will change with a new seat.. probably this week.. Tiff wants to be able to ride on the backm so, a new seat, and some passenger pegs... Good to go... Tell you what though, takes some serious mental adjustments going from teh X1 to this.. I think I have already shaved a 1/4-3/8 of an inch off those peg-feeler-things...hahaha Chase |

Congratulations. Nice looking bike, one of the best looking Harleys, no doubt. Did you know that Blake is going to start a Harley topic on this board. Just a matter of time.

I am really liking this bike... Only issue thus far, seems to be warranty issues, as in, what I can and can't do.... Chase |

Google the Magnuson-Moss Act. It will tell you exactly what you can and can't do. |

I had an 2005 883/1200 that I really liked. I'm glad you went with the Sportster instead of the Roadking. I bought an '06 RK so my girlfriend could ride with me more. I hated it from the moment I got it. Then again, hating the Roadking brought me to my Cyclone. I had an area dealer do the 1200 conversion and all the other stuff. I asked ahead of time if they would honor the warranty, and they said it wouldn't be a problem at all if they did the work. I thought that was fair enough, and mostly irrelevant since I was having them do the work anyway. I hope you like your Sportster as much as I liked the ones I have had. Bill |

Google the Magnuson-Moss Act. It will tell you exactly what you can and can't do. All I gathered from this, is, it is unlawful for HD to void my warranty over the use of aftermarket parts, UNLESS, they can prove, that the parts directly resulted in the failure/warranty claim... Is this correct? It was also mentioned that any exhaust mods will void the emissions warranty... which, I as I dig, I already found the PCIII EX, is CARB approved, so, if I can find matching pipes/air cleaner, wouldnt that nulify that statement??? I am also trying to find where in the warranty is says that they I have to have the service done WITH THEM(for at least the first service), to keep the warranty intact.. 350+ is a bit steep for a first time check up... I dunno, I am scoping and scanning the XLForums, and what not, trying to get the skinny on this.. Chase |

I hear you on the first service issue, but to me it was well worth the money to not have to potentially argue warranty issues with them later. It was never an issue though. The bike never had a single problem (besides a HP deficit as an 883). It was one of those machines that just felt solid and well put together. I don't know if they still make them, but the SEII slash-cut mufflers were perfect. They had all the sound you could want without being so loud they were obnoxious. Bill |

Well, the mentioned something about the screamin' beagles... and how they are the best thing on the road, blah blah.. I will be talking with them tomorrow, one way or the other about a couple things, passenger peg mounts(not stock on the N), P-pad... Etc.. So.. As far as the pipe that I like, the D&D Fat Cat is nice, as well as the V&H Short Shots Black Chase |

Is this correct? Yes, this is correct. As far as maintenance is concerned, they can not require you to have your maint. done at the dealership, but they will require you to prove that it was done. If you do it yourself, you will have to save all your receipts, and create a log of what work you did. |

Get a service manual, xerox the pages with the service requirements, then make check marks and write in the dates and mileage when you do the work. Make sure you get some greasy fingerprints on the pages too. If you liked working on a Buell you'll love working on a Sportster (or a Dyna). It's like the pieces are bigger, simpler, and easier to get to. My Dyna service man is as good as or even better than my M2 manual was. H-D does does good documentation. Get one of those Guard Mail envelopes or some kind of document pouch and put all receipts in it as you go (noting on the receipt what it was for if it obvious) and you never regret it later. If you hand all that to the next owner, he should be tickled pint too. Jack |

The nice thing about s/e slipons is you can put them on without having to remap the fuel injection. Unless you change the intake as well, the muffler flow is already in the software. Three words for the ride quality, too: Pro...gress..ive. Nice shocks, they help a ton. |

Get a service manual, xerox the pages with the service requirements, then make check marks and write in the dates and mileage when you do the work. Make sure you get some greasy fingerprints on the pages too. Service Manual already ordered... but there is 2 for this... the Service Manual, and Electronics Diagnostic... since its under warranty, I will just use the Service for now.. The nice thing about s/e slipons is you can put them on without having to remap the fuel injection. Unless you change the intake as well, the muffler flow is already in the software. Three words for the ride quality, too: Pro...gress..ive. Nice shocks, they help a ton. First... I have a set of V&H Straights Slip ons coming from a buddy up the way in Houston... only temp till I can get a godo deal on a D&D Fat Cat and send it off to be coated... Either way, as long as I dont jack with the a/c, I should be fine.. but, the PC3 will follow along with the D&D... Second, I like the ride personally... and, I will make a decision on the seat as it breaks in.... since, its already to the point of being decent more often than not.. Tell you one thing... WINDY as hell here right now.. And its nice not being blown all over the damn highway... I forgot how much I liked my Sporties.... Only got about 200 miles on it so far, but, I expect to be doing the break in service here soon.. Only... gripe.. I have NEVER ridden any for of XL with quiet pipes.. so.. I am hearing a pretty loud.. chatter at 66-68mph... either the valve train, or the primary chain.. let my buddy(SM), listen to it... said its the primary.. his does it too(he has a rowdy sporty 07 with a 88" kit, etc) Funny, as the staff thought I was gonna buy the 1125r they cant sell.... hahaha Anyway... I am rambling... Thanks gents... Chase |
