Yes, I use them all the time when I am delivering boats. The problem for me there is one of having to wear boat shoes to protect the boat decks (and help me not fall off) and my feet occasionally get wet. My feet then stay wet and get cold in the early spring or late fall New England weather and it all makes for a miserable day. I put those on over a pair of lighter to medium weight regular socks and they do a nice job of keeping my feet both dry and not cold. Even warm maybe. They have to be sort of hand laundered and air dried. I turn them inside out to wash and dry them. But with the other socks under them I don't feel a compulsive need to change the SealSkinz every day. They could probably be higher for taller boots but they are OK with ankle height (6" or so?) boots. I found them *way* cheaper than MSRP on eBay. Jack | ||

As long as they are high enough so that they shield behind the exposed parts of the boots, you should be OK. With those and basic waterproofing measures applied to the boots, you should have a versatile, comfortable setup usable year around. I used waterproof socks with a breatheable Gore-tex type liner on cross country trips before. While they worked pretty well when new, one developed a slight leak in the liner seam after a while that I didn't bother to try to seal. |
