I'm the new guy here, so please excuse me if I've missed this topic. Have any of you here done long rides on a stock 1125? I'm seriously considering an 1125R, and this summer will feature a "tour de US", month-long ride: an epic. My preference has always been the sportbike riding position, so the Buell would fit. The real question: is the riding position too extreme? Any comments would be appreciated. db |

Dave, I've done 500+ miles days on the 1125r, and I find it very comfortable as far as sportbikes go. I'm 5"10, about 155. I sit on the bike so that my butt is actually hanging off the back of the seat, up against the cowling. This distributes my weight across my thighs. I don't really get tired in the seat. The 1125r's bars are not too far forward. If anything, in normal street posture you get a lot of wind to the chest and helmet. Compared to something like a CBR1000 or R1, I think you will find the 1125r quite comfortable. |

Dave, My longest day ride so far on an 1125R is 325miles. I wasn't worn out at all after that. I had just finished what I was doing that day. I sold a BMW1100S to get the 1125. The Beemer was my sport touring bike and my longest ride in a day on it was just shy of 1000 miles. For my build (5'-8"), the riding position is very similar to the Beemer. The bars are just a tad lower but the seat-peg ratio seems very similar. The Beemer luggage solution was great, but I have found a reasonable substitute for the 1125R with softbags from Cortech. Not quite as much space in the softbag/tailbag solution. But it will suffice. See you on the road this summer. |

Hi Dave I also find the bike comfortable to ride. I am making custom bars for it but will take a while to do it. I have been working on the bike to turn it into a sport tourer and have saddlebags, tail bag, and gps mounted on the bike so far, I will be posting pictures when I get the chance and is looking real good with the saddlebags and tail bag that match the lines of the bike, I have done 220 in one day and it is no problem at all, my sons Buell blast kills me riding around town, I am 5'11" 220 lbs and sit up as far up front as I can this helps the front wheel to stay on the ground and supports me, check out Bratmans handlebar set up on ((will mirror spacers help)). I am doing something like this but will take a while to get it done my way. Mike |

I just did a 360 mile ride the other day with no problems. In May I am planing an Around the Rim (Grand Canyon) ride that I doubt I will be able to do in one day. I am 6'1" with long arms but some raised upper bar clamps sure would take some tension off my neck. |

Thanks, all. It's looking good, given that I'm "motorcycle-sized": 5'7" and 165#. I'm just about convinced. I can't think of another bike I'd rather have. db |

277 miles yesterday in a wicked crosswind the whole way, first left then right. Shoulda gone to Kansas instead of Wyoming. Tried to hit the half-way point to Sturgis. When it warms up a bit, I'll be ready to ride to Lusk for a beer at the Silver Dollar, then ride home. 5'10", 160#, 53 Y.O. My neck's sore but it's stretching out easy. Not as sore as if I'd dug a half dozen post holes... Z |

Zack what is your opinion on the stock bars do you think it need different bars for long rides? did you get my PM on how I am thinking of changing the bars? I am off for a good ride now and I have done at the most 220 miles which is up and back to my dealer and was comfortable which surprised me, I thought the bike would be uncomfortable but I was wrong, but thinking on a five hundred mile ride it might be uncomfortable. Got your PM Mike, looks good, if you've got the room to use the 45s instead of 90s. I'd like the bars just a bit higher, but first I need to raise the fairing. C4-5-6 are fused in my lower neck, so it's impossible for me to tuck and see at the same time. I use my left hand, balled in a fist, on the airbox to lift my chin up when I tuck, but I can't hold that position long. Z |

Thanks Zack and that must suck having your neck like that, I just started a thread on head shaking, both my helmets do this when I ride fast so maybe I need to tuck in more but you are going to have this problem if you can not get low enough, are you doing what Bratman did? there is a rubber edge for bikes windshields and it make the wind go up higher so the website is www.saeng.com I am doing this to my bike all around the outer windshield and fairing and suppose to be good in the rain also.
