Well I hav'nt rode my bike for a few months but I had a problem when shifting. I think it was between 2nd and 3rd when I would let out the clutch and roll on the gas its like the clutch would hang and then clunk into gear. i thought I found a thread on the topic this summer but I can't seem to find it now. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks |

I don't know the thread you're talking about, but if you fed a few key words in the search function, I'm sure you should be able to track it down. It sounds like the detent spring may have come off (it's plausible) or the detent wheel itself has cocked on it's pins on the shift drum. No telling, really. It could be something as simple as the shift shaft binding on the primary case for some reason. If you have a manual and are inclined to do so, it might be a good time to take the primary off you can't figure out what's going on. Not a hard job, but you'll need a manual to help if it's your first time. There is a downloadable S1 manual available right here on the BadWeb. |

The thread you are looking for can probably be found with a search for worn shift dogs. Its kinda bad news on a tuber, and really bad news on an XB.

Thanks guys I did find the one I was looking for. I have a manual and I did have the primary apart last winter. I replaced the clutch, basket, and the detent plate. I will be pulling it apart again because it is still doing same thing. |

Once you have that primary chain out, you are 90% of the way to having the transmission on your bench. |

This is what I was looking for http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/7739.html I like pictures. I am going to read the manual tonight and work on it this weekend. I need to get the clutch tool. After searching for shift dogs I found alot of discussion about what I am getting into so im sure I will be fine. Just read your profile, Are you going to be at Mid-Ohio again this year? I was there last year and had a great time. I met a few people but I do't think we met. Anyway thanks for the tips and if you decide that you want more again, and get an 1125R, I like the 9SX and after a day on the track know my S3 has limitations. |

Yup! Was there last year, and am going to be there this year. I was on the blue 9sx, in a yellow jacket that makes me look like a fireman (except fatter) I was running in the novice class. You weren't the one that borrowed a header bolt from me were you? That thread brings back great memories! Turns out I should have listened to everyone and gone deeper. The fifth gear drive assembly had crushed bearings and was grinding my mainshaft. Turned out fine though. The transmission rebuild was a different thread. Thats when I replaced the 2nd gear pair (which is the job you probably need to do). http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=198002#POST198002 There is another thread in there somewhere as well, but I didn't take a lot of pictures of the tranny rebuild. |
