I'm Curious has anyone converted from an R tail to an S tail? If so is it a major pain? Or is it as simple as swapping them out. Thanks guys

There are plenty of people here who've done it. It's not quite as simple as just swapping one out for the other, but neither are there any insurmountable mechanical hurdles to overcome. R to S is probably easier than S to R - there's less going on in a R tailsection since much of the electronics are under the fairing.

Someone with firsthand knowledge can pipe in with the nitty-gritty.

Going from an R tail to an S tail is way easier than S to R.
You can do an R to S swap in about a half an hour to 45 minutes, if you have all the parts.

from what i hear.....PAIN!
Even going from S to R was not a "PAIN", time consuming is more like it.
You have to figure out where to put all the electrics, since the R tail wasn't designed to hold the electrics the way the S is.

+1 Glitch

Took me less than an hour to do my R to S swap. The thing that took the longest, was bleeding the rear brake.
If you do a search, you will find plenty of info.

i have done the swap both ways. neither is that hard. like every one said, R to S is easier.
scale of one to ten. i would rate it a 3-4 depending on your mechanical ability.
S-R is a little more challenging, i would rate it about a 7.

Thanks guys thats good to know. I looked in the archives for any how to's. But there wasnt any. At least I have an estimate of the work. I was hoping i wouldnt have to bleed that rear brake line. thanks for the help.

You don't *have* to....
But if you're wanting to go from an S to an R, you'll do well to split the fuse box, and put it back together long ways. You'll have to lengthen one wire to do so. Once you've done that you can put the ECM just above the battery, and the fuse box, and the comm link in the "trunk" giving you easy access to the fuse box. Had I not done this I'd have to remove the bodywork to change a fuse.

Wolf and I swapped.
Really made the job easier, because with both bikes in the same barn to do the swap, made it so we had every part we needed, no need to make "one more trip to the dealer".

If someone is going to do this swap, I'd highly recommend swapping with someone that can be there with you.
Wolf came down from Ohio, to Georgia just to do the swap.
I think it went very well.
Just make sure to get that bank angle sensor right side up! I know exactly how long my bike will run when it thinks it's upside down!

WORK! IT KEEPS GETTING IN THE WAY MY FUN TIME!!

I kinda want to put it back in street clothes but as soon as I do that I will be headed back to the track.

And if you do a search for 'tail swap' you get a lot of threads on this topic.

The rear brake line has to be bled because the two tails store the reservoir in a different place. You will need to swap it along with the rest of the tail, or maybe just cut the length of the hose (I can't remember if the reservoirs were the same or not). Make sure to keep your locking mechanism if you trade tails, or you won't be able to get the seat off.
