Of course that wouldn't be a quarter mile. And of course I don't have one but what the heck. |

I never claimed that it WILL do 9s but here is what makes me think that it should. I don't think that I'm being overly optimistic with the horse power and I think that I am over estimating my total weight (bike, rider, and gear). Right now it's 20 degrees outside, I'm looking at 1 1\2" of sleet and snow. Wish I was at the track or out riding but I guess for now all these forums on the BadWeB will have to do. I have used this formula before against actual time slips on cars that we drag race and it is actually fairly accurate. Part of the reason why I think mid 10's is realistic is because I am an amateur drag racer(I suck) and also by the time I get to the track the outside air temperature will be a bit higher which would also slow the bike down a tenth or two. If you don't mind being a couch potato for a minute or two try plugging some numbers into the following calc. and see what you come up with for your bike's horse power and your weight.

10.70's in the heat with a good driver on the light/full fluids...AS DELIVERED STOCK in 08'. Remember...this is a street bike design and will not do the same math we are used to with oriental 4's! |

hey dalton , i'm a flunky , can you please "splain" that "(3 x sg. root of 5 formular ?) i've tried to duplicate your E.T. and get stuck at that 3 v- 5 area . thanks clif |

Look again, it's a cube root, not 3 x square root. 2 squared = 4 (2 x 2) 2 cubed = 8 (2 x 2 x 2) Z |

i.e. the cubed root of 8 = 2, the cubed root of 125 = 5. Will it warp your mind to know that the cubed root of 1 is 1? |

Hey Cycle, I assume that Zac & Freezer got you straightened out. Hey Bagger, Yes 400# of bike, 240# of fat guy, and 10# of gear = 650# total. |

Thanks Dalton I wonder if wheelie bars would help, I have a fear of flipping the bike over on the start so I am thinking wheelie bars but do not have a way of getting them to the track right now, three bike no car, so that is on the back burner, I have the straps to lower the front and deciding on what shift light to get and have a few other idea's and just looking for a rush but want to get under the 10 second mark. |

Serious, I almost flipped my bike before on the launch and wheelie bars would make the bike quicker off the line and I could concentrate on the light, I also think wheelie bars would get the bike under ten with the right rider. |

Mike don't take this the wrong way, I've ridden with you and know you can ride, but drag racing is different and you couldn't get your 11 second bike out of the 12's so wheelie bars aren't going to get you and your new 10 second bike into the 9's. There are some bikes you can buy you way into the 9's on, this isn't going to be one of them IMO. Few riders can do a couple of laps down the 1/4 mile here or there and expect to post a real good number. Jason Britton From SuperBikes on Speed stunts like a madman and ran a 10.24 on a new ‘Busa and that is a good number for someone without a lot of passes under his belt! Also, cutting a good light has NO effect on e.t. Go to the track, strap it down, and see what you get down to after DOZENS of runs. Then add an air shifter and see what you get down to. If that is a 10.2 or better, wheelie bars MIGHT get you into the nines (Ya still gotta ride it and it is not necessarily easier), if not, it ain't gonna happen on that bike without more HP and I don't mean a pipe and an air cleaner! |

Scott not offended like I said with the right rider, and the right stuff, like wheelie bars, a shifter, and if those figures above are right? I am not the right rider, I had you in mind you are allot lighter and more experienced at drag racing, I hit third gear coming out of a rest stop on the highway and things happened real fast, and my gps registered 110 to 120 I am not sure now, but it take a few seconds for the gps to pick up the speed so I was going faster, maybe if I practice allot and do some modifications I will get there next year. Buell has stated that there is allot more power the motor can put out but was building it for the street rider not racer, I am sure there are going to be a kit for the bike for more cc, ecm, exhaust, etc. so I just would like for this year to have fun and having a wheelie bar would take the fear of flipping the bike over and get a real good launch I do not do burn outs and have read that unless you have slicks then your wasting your tires, I walked on the track after a night of racing two years ago and it is like gum. I need to get use to this power before moving up to more power, I got the straps and will get a shift light and go from there, wheelie bars would be nice to. I would like to see you do a run on this bike, so have I would have something to compare with, so maybe if I catch you up there. Just remember I am not the one saying it will go under ten like it is, as you read above there are others saying that fact. Mike |

I know to much talk not enough action, I can not wait to see what people do to the bike and what the numbers are for real. I did say if the factors are correct and the right rider, I never said I was the right rider I am a newbie to this much power and drag racing so I am going to school to lean how to control it and after the summer I am tearing the bike down and hopefully there will be a bigger bore kit for it and some other parts, bikes are my passion and I can not leave them alone so I am doing some nice stuff to the bike and will be posting pictures when I get the bike back from the shop which is going to be awhile I feel. I also do art work with a air brush and think I will do a custom paint job to, I do not like the blue color of the frame but did not buy the bike for its look, I can always make something look better that is my talent.Mike |

having a wheelie bar would take the fear of flipping the bike over Let's say that you are afraid of drowning. So you put on a scuba tank, but as your head slips below the waves you will still be afraid of drowning! A wheelie bar is not going to eliminate the feeling that you are going to go over backwards and the harder launch is something else to fear! You are on the right track with just adding a strap and a shift light and doing runs and gaining experience for now... |

Thanks Zack that bike was like a boat and you know what they say about boats there are a hole in the water and your always pouring your money into the hole, and so many baggers on the road now they like exploded in popularity and now they have a mag just for them. it would be nice to have lots of money and could afford a few bikes but two is enough and the blast is like a spare tire for bad weather or when the bike is in the shop like it is now. I can use my sons ulysses for shopping with its big bags and hope to get him to go to Buells homecoming, and think Buell should have a party just for us with the problems allot of us are having. I got the saddlebags and tail bag for the bike and they match each other and think they are going to look real good on the bike, but are small, do not know about a tank bag yet got to match the other bags, xb lights is building me a light I designed, and just got a fire bolt license plate mount real cheap. I am looking for stainless steel elbows so I can make a couple of handlebars to suit what riding I am doing so if any of you guys know were I can get them would be nice I spent an hour late last night looking for them found tubing but not the elbows I need. I miss the bike, I am riding the ulysses for shopping and it feels so slow just off 2000 it feels like it has no power, I do not know if it is the bike or because I am use to the 1125R? the motor top end was rebuilt because the oil pump went on it and now I do not know if they screwed it up or not, it seems I have bad luck with Buells first one in 97 viberated to much and 15 miles my right hand would be numb, ulysses oil pump went a 6700 miles and bought in late june and missed the fall riding season from it and the idiots that worked on it, took them two month to fix it, now this bike is giving me a hard time. Racing school opens up in April so will have to rent leathers, if I get my bike back by then, do not know what I want as a riding suit yet and do not have the money anyway but they do except textiles suits if they are good so will see how the leathers fit and feel then decide, this is the quickest bike I have ever ridden and know I need to respect it and is why I am going to school. Do any of you guys have any info on performance upgrades yet. Mike |

Scott not true I am afraid of drowning but with scuba gear I am fine, I look forward to that hard launch off the line, it is what I am looking for a rush, and it takes allot to give me one, there are things I have done that I can not post and would have to know you good before telling you what I use to do, I am a adrennalin junkie and need a fix, I am not normal and can drink coffee and can go to sleep and if I drink it keeps me awake? I also can not believe I have made it almost to fifty which will be in May. Mike |

Mike - good on ya, sending some business to Robert at XB Lights. He makes a fine light at a very fair price. My light from him sets the whole look of the rear end. After riding my Firebolt, and now the 1125 with 50 more ponies, power shifts kinda scare me. Hate to flip at 70 mph... Z |

Hey Zack I seen your light and liked it so I emailed him and gave him this design as a running light (--|--) with blue leds in the middle and a clear lens, he is going to making it for me soon. Do you really think the bike could flip at 70? wheelie bars are sounding better and better. I have seen several different shifting systems but was thinking of a button to push to kill the engine to shift, cheap but do not know how it would work, seen the same system that you hook up to the shifter so when you shift with your foot it kills the engine and you keep the throttle WFO. I got to figure a way to get the wheelie bars to the drag strip before buying them, I got a few month to figure that out. I am thinking of getting a tig welder and could weld up something to keep the wheelie bars off the ground while I ride up to the strip, maybe I will ask my son for help. I found a website that has softweare you can download to design metal parts and they will make them for you, also found the tubing for the handlebars but the elbows I am having a hard time to find, and like what Bratman did. Neil set me up with a guy to do my seat for more comfort and got a cheap one off ebay for him to do this to. I am learning allot on these posts and slowly making progress. Mike |

things can go wrong on a wheeliebar bike too - im going to be honest - when both the wheels come off of the ground on your launch its a bit scary (in my case it cocked the bike to the left some) also - there are street tires....well let me say DOT tires that take well to burnouts. i have the racetec from Metzler, its a street tire but give it about 2 seconds of smoking it and its good to go |

ps - just saw your newest post - id recommend the one that shifts for you. the reason i got a airshifter was so that i would be taken out of the equation when it came to shifting. much easier to press a button that pop your foot up, sometimes you dont bring it up enough or at all. |

Hi Garret I agree but I do not have allot of money and will take time to get there, I did learn a little like Scott said the guy on Jason on super bikes did over ten seconds on the busa and he is a really good rider and I am a newbie, I have only done drag racing a few times mostly when I lived in Florida and a 1/8 mile track so I got a lot to learn and did learn that it is better not to bring your feet to the pegs when taking off it upsets the geometry of the bike so I am learning and just hope one day I can go under ten, and I do know it will take allot to get there. You guys do know that E.T. is all in the launch. Trap speed is a pretty good indicator of horsepower. |
