These words and expressions have become tiresome. Add your expressions that you think ought to be retired out of the language and thrown on the garbage heap. “How cool is that?” When people say that it irks me to no end. What, you can’t figure it out for yourself? Lack of self confidence, eh? HTFU “Disenfranchised “ Oh yes, poor you. Need ACLU or some shit like that to look out for you. Pull your pants up turn the ballcap around and HTFU! “Disingenuous” Yeah. You hear something that don’t agree with your opinion. It’s immediately disingenuous. HTFU and accept that somebody thinks differently than you |

"Do you want fries with that?" If I wanted them, Ida asked for em, now STFU. "Does this look infected to you?" Just pull up your pants and HTFU! |

I am also done with "Politically Correct" or the PC abbreviation there of. There is nothing that will get a STFU, or HTFU faster from me than that. If I happen to offend your delicate sensibilities by what I may say, I would suggest to you that half the world away there are graver, more dire consequences for your stupidity, be glad you live in a country that allows and fosters your lack of intelligence, common sense and ignorance that you feel entitled to. This public service announcement brought to you by the Committee to Promote and Defend HTFU. |

That's funny Doerman. None of those words bothers me... but here are a few phrases that really do. "It is what it is." If it wasn't, then WTF would it be? "My bad." I appreciate the acknowledgment, but a 'pardon me' would make you sound less disingenuous (sorry Doerman). "I agree 1000 percent". And you obviously don't have a clue what a 'percentage' alludes to. If I agreed 2000 percent, would that make you believe me twice as much? "Been there, done that." Stop going there, stop doing that. What are you... a time traveller from the 20th century? "YEAH it is". Of course it is... didn't I just say it was? Just saying 'I agree' would make you sound like you composed a thought instead of flatlining a brainwave moniter. "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH" I understood the first YEAH. You must be good frieds with the guy who says '1000 percent' all the time. "Can I AKS you something?" Sure! I got a huge pile of wood behind the house, but you'll need to bring your own axe. I could keep going... (Message edited by djkaplan on February 12, 2008) |

"Outside the box" I've got a cat that dumps outside the box... gives me a totally different context! The ONLY puzzle that puts "Outside the box" in proper perspective: Below are nine dots arranged in a set of three rows. Your challenge is to draw four straight lines which go through the middle of all of the dots without taking the pencil off the paper. If you were using a pencil, you must start from any position and draw the lines one after the other without taking your pencil off the page. Each line starts where the last line finishes. Try this now by quickly drawing nine dots on a piece of paper and have a go with a pencil. Place your pencil somewhere, draw four straight lines without taking your pencil off the page. Each line must start where the last line finished.

I heard this a while back... "Outside the box? Not until there is evidence that somebody has been thinking inside the box" DjK... agree completely about anything referring to over 100%. |

Steve: Fun puzzle. I employed it . . as well as the ones with 4x4, 5x5 and 6x6 rows in a recent speech I gave on "Change". I still like the guy who was telling that part of his organization adopted, as their slogan, "thinking outside the box". . . unfortunately it was the shipping department. Anybody tossed the word "systemic" into the mix yet? I've noted with clients that when EVERYTHING is screwed up and no one has a clue as to why . . . . it's invariably (another word that likely belongs on the list) a "systemic" problem. |

I've got a cat that dumps outside the box... gives me a totally different context! I dont know why I found that so funny, but I cant stop laughing. One other thing that bugs me, is calling anybody that engages in any activity an "athlete" |

The 'outside the box' test is featured in Stephen Covey's "The Seven Habits of Effective People". I was the only person in my entire company that was able to solve it immediately when they made us go to Covey seminar. "The Seven Habits of Effective People" was a total waste of time, money and effort, btw. Total BS. |

I don't hear "outside the box" as much as I used to. My current pet peeve is "ABSOLUTELY!" Typically used when a simple "yes" would do. |

How about countering the "ABSOLUTELY" with a "RELATIVELY?" |

And then, what is it with young chicks working at Starbucks? Cute as they may be they ramble on without a comma and throw "like" in between every other words. I'm never sure if they got my order. |

Don't get me started on Starbucks. . . . When you are selling coffee at $2.28 per cup and have 7 folks waiting in line . . . most queued up for the $4.85 double-macho-single shot-hazelnut-extra hot-soy-non-fat latte'. . . the correct answer is NEVER . . . "I'm sorry, we are out of coffee, can you wait 3 or 4 minutes?". I'm not picky. I told her . . . "please give me anything . . . decaf, bold, medium light. . hell I'd even drink something that wasn't picked by a person being paid a fair wage and fed thrice daily". She turned, drew a cup and . . . while leaving the lid sitting next to it, in an apparent effort to multi-task . . .turned and said to the next person in line "what may I be getting for you?" I. . . generally a wimp . . roared "GIVE ME MY COFFEE". She seemed alarmed . . in Starbucks. . with the concept of selling a cup of coffee. I see the current crop of political candidates and as a reflection of a general malaise.
