Sweet, so 4-5000 rpms in 4th gear for low highway speed and 4-5000 rpms in 5th for high highway speeds Luv'in it. |

Umm. 5,000 RPMs in 5th will probably get you thrown UNDER the jail. |

You also start running into air resistance issues. Now 70MPH in 4th will work. |

Sorry to Highjack, but wanted to answer the question. Fatty, It's been absolutely awesome and nothing but pure heaven on wheels. I put the Ducati Handguards on it and a 14T front sprocket and it's done. I do not want to change a thing on it now. Everything about it is perfect for me in every way. Every time I ride it, it runs better and better and puts me at complete peace with the world. It is truly just the perfect to me and I don't see replacing it ever. I see growing old with this bike and being buried with it someday. I haven't been able to ride much lately because of random snow/ice/rain storms, but I got a new car to deal with that that is almost as much fun as the MS. Back to your regularly scheduled thread. |

That's great man! I know your experience wasn't a great one. I definitely think you got a stinker. That and I think it was the wrong bike for you. Glad to hear you are liking the MS. Great think about bikes, it's less painful to trade up to the newer one than wives. |

I was going to say, last I checked, 4000 rpms was 80mph. Don't need to do anything faster. |

" it's less painful to trade up to the newer one than wives." Filed those papers today at the court house too. Been a wonderful new year. I would never wish my life on my worst enemy. |

Actually it's been better than expected. I haven't felt this good emotionally, mentally and physically in a long time. When it's wrong, it's just wrong. There was no nasty fight over anything. We just realized that it wasn't working and that would be worse for the kids than staying together in misery and fighting over any little thing. |

JM - Congrats/Condolences on the divorce. I've been there and know what you're describing. It was absolutely wonderful to be free and done. And it was sad to see something that started with such great hopes end like that. It's a good time to lean on your friends. |

Andy, as to gas mileage here are some experiments I did: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/279307.html Not everyone gets the same results I do. Fatty has speculated the difference is rider size, with larger riders doing better with a lower gear. I have not done the XB9 conversion yet, but as a result of that experiment I hardly ever use 5th gear anymore. Even at speeds where you think it would make sense, I find I basically have to ride WOT in 5th. If I'm in 4th I still have throttle response (approx 6k rpm in 4th.) |
