Hi! I am looking for a set of good condition 2000-02 S3 bars. I have a set of X-1 bars I would do a straight swap for, or purchase the S3 bars outright... Anyone out there got a set willing to trade? Thanks! |

I'm not sure, but I think S3's use the same bars as the X1 and M2. I think you want S3T handlebars or Blast bars. Could be wrong... but if I am, someone will be here shortly to rightfully correct me. |

The blast handle bars are the same as the "s3" bars, a couple of inches taller than x1 bars. the standard cables etc work ok. (Message edited by oldog on February 06, 2008) |

Thanks for the info, I think I have it sorted! Here in order of height S3T (Blast bars) S3 "high bar" as sold by dealer (likely S3T/ Blast) S3 "low bar" as sold by dealer (likely bit taller than X1) X1 bar - wont clear tank on S3 So, looks like there is an actual S3 bar specific to the bike? My bro is getting the S3 "low bar" from local Buell dealer and we can double check it back-to-back with X1 bars to verify difference. Thanks! |

The X1 bars not being able to clear an S3 Manta tank doesn't sound right. X1 and M2 bars are identical. The 5 gallon Manta tank the M2 and S3 use are not identical but they share the same outside dimensions. If the X1/M2 bar clears an M2 Manta tank, it should clear an S3 Manta tank... just barely in both cases, though. |

Thanks, that sounds about right on clearance....I will try x1 bars on S3 and see if I can get just the right clearance I need. Christian |

I have S3 bars (not T) on my S3 and the horn button just touches the tank badging when turned all the way to the left. It is just enough to beep! As far as I know they are in the factory position. |

Standard S3 bars and X1 bars are the same bars. Scott is right the horn button will touch the tank. I "dremeled" mine down a little. The bars are as follows: S3T bars=P3 bars S3 bars=X1 bars=M2 bars. Be there, Frank. |

I had the same horn button issue with the stock bars on my 2000 M2. Rotating the bars forward slightly helped, but you get to a point where the wrist angle doesn't work if you rotate them too far. |

Cool, the big bar mystery is solved! Thanks, Im wanting to drop the bars on my S3T down a bit and take better advantage of the 3'over screen for the trip to March Badness! Christian |

I recently changed to S3T bars on my X1. They felt really strange at first but made an unbelievable difference in the comfort dept. All the cables and wires will barely work, after cutting all zip ties, re-routing, and much swearing. Careful with those old brittle wires! |

rotate the switch housing............ |

The switch housing position is dictated by a little aligning hole in the handlebar: you'll have to redrill the hole to reposition the switch. I heard the housing will stay in place if you break the tab off, but this isn't the case with the left switchgear housing on my Crossroads bars. I relocated the aligning holes when I shortened the bars and the housing rotates a little because the redrilled locating hole is larger than the original one. |

I just bought a new set of original Buell S3 bars (not S3T tall bars) from the dealer. Before putting them on my 2001 S3, I did a close comparison to X1 bars that were off the bike. X1 bars are not the same as S3. X1 bars are almost identical to S3, however X1 bars are swept back about 5 degrees more. This seemingly insignificant difference will cause the switch housings to hit the tank S3 tank. Please do not rotate your housings, that is an ergonomic disaster. Plus never shave anything off a BUELL! Also, never use your rear view mirrors as a perch to set your helmet on (very dorky). Please set the helmet on the ground, or hold it. Now I'm really confused. Based on what Duckbuell said, the X1 bars shouldn't be able to work on an S3 with out an interference problem. I gotta find out what the deal is. |

The X-1 bars do fit on a S3, you have to roll them forward just a bit more to clear the tank. I am running them now and feels just fine, very slight difference btw X-1 and S3 bars. Christian |
