It was the Bears I was thinking of - not the steelers. This is on the Hall of fame site: The Chicago Bears sailed through the 1942 NFL schedule undefeated and untied. The reigning NFL champs, the Bears, were favorites to win their third consecutive title when they met the Washington Redskins in the 1942 Championship game. However, the Redskins defense was up to the task and surprised the Bears 14-6. The Redskin victory had an extra measure of satisfaction, since it was the same Bears team that two years earlier humiliated Washington 73-0 in the 1940 title game. Having an undefeated and untied regular season, only to lose in the championship game, was not a new experience for the Bears. In 1934, the New York Giants upset the 13-0 Bears were upset 30-13 in the championship game. |

I'd call it an @ss kicking. They kicked the shit out of Brady all night. Couldn't have happened to a nicer team. A team that has been accused of and then caught cheating. You think this year was the first? A team that ran the scores up. Had the Giants won by one point, I'd still call it an @ss kicking. A COACH THAT CAN'T BE A MAN AND FINISH THE GAME? HAS TO DECIDE ON HIS OWN THE GAME IS OVER? I don't care if you watched 5 minutes or the whole game. The final score is all that matter. (Message edited by rocketsprink on February 04, 2008) |

they even said that the pats coach had headed for the tunnel and didn't go out to congratulate the giants coach. pretty unsportsman like i think. he might have come back out but he didn't start that way. |

I did notice that everytime I went to catch up that the Patriots quarterback was getting hammered. How many times was he sacked? I suppose, given that about nobody gave the Giants a chance . . and they were labeled as "big underdogs" that ending the game with a higher score and tons of clothing that says "CHAMPIONS" makes it difficult to advance the "spilt decision" argument. I'll snap some photos at the ticker tape parade and see how many Patriots I can get photos of . . . . It was a fun game to watch . . . . I've been a little gun shy of football since sitting through the longest game in history and screwing up a family Christmas dinner. |

"A team that has been accused of and then caught cheating. You think this year was the first? A team that ran the scores up." I don't think it was the first year. In fact I think ND coach Wiess had his fingers in on it before leaving for South Bend. Spygate and taping the walk through in the 2002 superbowl adds to the accusations. Watching Brady get the same rush that most other QBs receive, puts his ability a little more in perspective. I think I would have given the MVP to Patriot's Welker as he did more for his team than anyone else I can think of. Manning's mad scramble to bust loose was fun to watch. I'm no Giants fan but I was glad to se them win. |

Belichick's leaving early is nothing like last year when he wouldn't even look Coach Dungy in the eye and barely shook his hand when the Colts beat them last year. |

I suppose, given that about nobody gave the Giants a chance . . and they were labeled as "big underdogs" that ending the game with a higher score and tons of clothing that says "CHAMPIONS" makes it difficult to advance the "spilt decision" argument. I'm not taking anything away from the Giant's victory. I was pulling for them the whole game. The favored team always has tons of "champions" gear. That's just business. Here's what I mean by "knock out punch": 2003 Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21 2001 Baltimore 34, N.Y. Giants 7 1999 Denver 34, Atlanta 19 1995 San Francisco 49, San Diego 26 1994 Dallas 30, Buffalo 13 1993 Dallas 52, Buffalo 17 1988 Washington 42, Denver 10 These games were verifiable routs. One team won decisively over the other. There were teams here that played near perfect ball in the game and others that didn't. In last nights game, both teams made mistakes, pulled out plays by the skin of their teeth, or looked sloppy. That is what I mean by "split decision". Neither team played so well that you could say that the other team got "lucky" to beat them. Both played well enough to win but not well enough to say that it was a blowout. For a team that was favored by 14 points and flirting with a perfect season, the Pats didn't play that well. Was it because of Brady's ankle, his offensive line, or because the Giants rush kept dumping him on his ass? How many long passes did Brady throw that ended up 10-20 yards short of the target? The Giants played better than expected but not perfectly. The Pats played worse than expected and definitely not like a team working toward a perfect season. That to me was what made it a great game. I can remember each of the games listed above. I believe that the advertising dollars spent after halftime were some of the least effective in recent history. No one was watching. I'd bet that the viewership right up to the end on this one made the minutes of this game the highest of any in recent history. I'm glad that I got to watch all of it and not just 5 minutes. |

Belichick's leaving early is nothing like last year when he wouldn't even look Coach Dungy in the eye and barely shook his hand when the Colts beat them last year. I was cheering for a loss simply because of Belichick. He is a sorry excuse for a human being. Man up and congratulate the coach of the other team. He did at least congratulate the Giant's coach. That and he's a cheater. If they'd won, I'd always believe that their season deserved an asterisk. |

For those of you who are old enough to remember, if it was not for the errant pass of garo yuprimien (spelling) the final of that game would have been 17-0 Miami Dolphins over washington Redskins to cap off the 17-0 season |

Everyone seemed to think that the Pats were going to stomp the Giants, but I just didn't understand why they felt that way. Think about it - name one defining moment in the entire Patriots season? They didn't do anything spectacular - just won games in a ho-hum fasion. Even last night - I'm having a hard time thinking of a big play on the Pats side that could even compete with the Manning's little escape routine. The Patriots might be a good, even great football team, but they're boring. The last game of the regular season, when these teams played each other, was a GREAT game, and the Pats didn't murder them there - they won by the skin of their teeth. It was a very close, very exciting game. I never made a call on who would win, only that I felt like it would be a close game, and one of the best to watch in a long time. I was right, and the bonus is I was rooting for the Giants simply because I dislike the Pats for some reason. I don't like Dynasties in sports or politics, but that's a different thread. Congrats to the Giants, and congrats to the Pats for putting up a good fight and having a great season. |

Watching Brady get the same rush that most other QBs receive, puts his ability a little more in perspective. That's what I've been saying all year. Brady is over rated IMHO. His offensive line is an awesome group though IMHO. You watch most every Patriots game this year, and what do you see? Brady safe, taking all the time he wants in the pocket. That is what the Giants succeeded in doing. Breaking down that offensive line and putting Brady on his ass. It was AWESOME to see. |

"let's not make it sound like the Giants whipped the shit out of them. They got lucky to keep a drive alive with a 30 yard prayer. Without that play Manning is weeping on his brother's shoulder and Strahan is sucking his thumb. The Packers played the Giants tougher than the Patriots did in my opinion." Somebody can't get beyond that Packer loss. The play you're talking about was hardly a prayer. It was two great players making two great plays. They made them. The Patriots didn't. GIANTS - BEST DAMN TEAM IN THE NFL!!! AND PROVED IT!!! |

The Giants did what they had to do to win the defense was supurb and the offense was good enough with a smatering of good fortune which all great teams need. All in all the Giants put on a clinic to all the high powered offensive teams to really think about my team included and they are still so young looks like SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL is back I will still love the Colts but its gonna be fun to watch the NFC east next year |

>>>They got lucky I went back and looked and not one of the Lombardi trophies to date included the word "Lucky" . . this will likely be the first. I have not dog in this fight but am guessing history will record one winner, one looser and no "lucky", "split decision" or similar references. I'll see if . . . in deference they throw ticker tape from only one side of the street today. I did laugh last night as one of the guys in my Construction Disputes class has been a Giants fan and ticket season holder since he was 20. He appeared in class looking somewhat haggered from the trip back and clad in full Giant stadium warfare garb! KU basketball in my game and I'm in deep shit with my kids, both KU grads, since my Alma Mater Kansas State University knocked off the Hawks last weekend threatening their #2 spot. |

If Eli evading that sack in the final drive didn't have a smattering of good fortune in it I do not think anything does not to mention he caught it with his HEAD |

Could it also not be said that a lesser receiver would not have been to catch that ball? |

Good luck, karma, fortune, or just god smiling on them. call it what you want, but the giants played a good game and deserved to win. They did give Brady a beating. Had the pats defense scrambling big time. |

Could it also not be said that a lesser receiver would not have been to catch that ball? Wow. I didn't see the play during the game . . . just watched the replay. The ratio of luck to skill will go on for a while but there's no disputing that one thing was obvious . . . and INTENSE desire to win. It was amazing play. Remind me to tell you the story of the fish tank and the billionaire. Once you have the skill . . . . doesn't matter if it's being in the construction business, a student or racing motorcycles . . the best thing you can add to it is setting your mind on being #1 and not settling for ANYTHING less. Great play. |

Brady, Moss to miss Pro Bowl NFL.com One day after a shocking loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss have announced they will not play in the Pro Bowl game in Honolulu on Feb. 10. Is it me or are they (Brady and Moss) sore losers? Brady is using his sprained ankle as an excuse, but no reason was given for Moss. |

Giants won in the last because of determination, not luck. If it had been luck, Manning would have tripped, the ball would have hit off his helmet, flew into the air and got snagged on somebody's shirt that tripped into the End Zone. Now that, my friend's, is luck. |

the worst part of the game was giving Manning the Super Bowl MPV award after what the Giants defense did by holding a great scoring team (Patriots) to only 14 points, I feel that they were the true stars of that game! |
