OK, my son got me real good today. It pissed me off at first, but once he showed me what he did, I laughed histerically. I figured I would share with the group. You guys can prank your co-workers or family members or whatever. I believe you need a PC running windows and you must have a program similar to "paint" 1. Close all programs 2. place mouse cursor over a neutral area of your desktop (not over an icon) 3. press "ctrl" + "print screen" 4. drag all desktop icons into the recycle bin. 5. open paint(or similar) program 6. go to the "edit" header and select "paste" . picture of your desktop with the icons will appear in the editor screen. 7. go to the "file" header and select "save as" then save it as a .jpg file in your "my documents" folder. 8. open "my documents" & find the picture of your desktop, right click it, and select "set as background" Now your desktop wallpaper will be a picture of your old desktop with icons. But your actual desktop has no icons(they're in the recycle bin). The pictures of your old icons cant be double-clicked, cant be moved or dragged, don't respond to left or right clicks! It drove me nuts! I thought my computer had crapped out! My son let me cuss & swear for nearly 10 minutes before coming in and laughing his ass off. It took him just a few seconds to go to the recycle bin and "restore all items" and set my wallpaper back. This prank has great potential, and can be done to any PC in approx 2-3 minutes. Have fun! |

There's an easier way to do that. Good gag nonetheless. just hit the printscreen button, paste it into a blank image that matches your desktop resolution, save it anywhere. Right click on your desktop and point to "arrange icons by" and in that menu UN-check the "show desktop icons". Then just left-click grab the taskbar and drag it down to hide it. In this way, you don't actually remove anyone's icons. When I used to work in an office, I did it to all 120 users across the entire network, and even the IT department couldn't figure it out. Hilarious! |

on an XP box: ctrl->alt->down arrow (or right or left arrow) use the opposite arrow to fix. Only seems to work on some computers, tho... |

another easy one is go to mouse settings and reverse the right and left mouse button, ive done it to some of the old guys here at work and they were going nuts trying to figure out why they keep getting a menu when they click on anything. |

Another quick and easy one is a piece of tape over the mouse ball or optical light. I even have a script i made that will reboot your computer right after startup. |

I did something similar, I copied the Microsoft Blue screen of Death with the fatal error and put it up as the wall paper. That one got me in trouble, the IT shop was up looking at it for a service call. BE WARE of computer pranks on April 1 |

I still like the little gnat image, got one of the IT people with it one day since we've got these soft flat screens.

Just a couple, A very LOW tech trick. If you have the glare screen covers over your monitor, put a piece of BLACK construction paper behind the screen. The computer will boot and do its warm up, but the screen will be BLACK (took IT 10 mins to get it) The other favorite was telling the new girl that her mouse ball was in upside down. She took it out, looked at it, then put it in 180 degrees. (the mouse was unplugged from the back of the computer) |
