Why bother? The Helicon doesn't blend well with chrome! Folks buying the HD brands aren't buying for performance. |

Some people buy the vrod for the performance. Guys that only ride HD but want something faster |

What I'dlike to see is a Nightster with an XB12 motor. Z |

I absolutely hate, loath and detest the very idea of the Helicon being in anything other than a Buell. This is the engine in which Buell stands on its own two feet. It's a pretty good crow bar between them and HD. If HD wants a new engine they can bloody well get their own. Just my 2 cents and there's probably change due |

If HD wants a new engine they can bloody well get their own. Yeah - and they got it in their V-Rod |

The way I see it, the more bikes made with the Helicon the better. More parts, better aftermarket, more Techs who will know how to work on it etc... Even if there are multiple variations of the Helicon it would be good. |

It is logical that Buell will market a naked version of the 1125R as soon as practical to take advantage of all the interest. An early 2009 model would be smart, before the Japanese jump on the bandwagon. There is no 2008 model year SV1000, so Suzuki might well have an upgraded TL/SV for 2009. Perhaps an 1100-1200 model? Erik is the one who got the ball rolling on the V-rod engine. H-D's requirements and specifications for the engine didn't meld with his, so the Helicon was developed by and for Buell. I think you'll see cactus in Anchorage before you'll see the Helicon dressed in chrome with black and orange badging. |

Zac- I'm with ya. I've been advocating something that sounds quite weird to most hog riders- how bout a CVO/Screaming Eagle Sportster? Chrome? Fugggetaboutit, just liberally cross-pollinate with Buell performance parts, CF as needed, and use the Buell/Pegasus logos to make it unique. Start with the Nightster, make it look like a 21st century XR1000, lighten it some if possible, and let it roll!! We're already much of the way there with the euro XR1200, maybe use it as a starting point... |

I dont think people will be paying much more for a Sportster, especially what one with cost with what you are thinking for it. I am all for them making a real performance sportster though with the Buell engine and fully adjustable suspension with cartridge forks. Price it at 10,500 base and enjoy |

I agree that for the Sporty, price point is critical. If the factory spent their $$$ on performance parts NOT chrome, it could still clock in at a reasonable price. A limited edition CVO bike with BALLS, price at $13500 and sell like hotcakes. A lot of guys out there still appreciate the "sport" in Sportster, may not care for the bigger/heavier Twincams. They'd go for it. Looks, styling also would be critical- mix in some Evel/XR aesthetics and dog'll hunt. (Message edited by 86129squids on January 30, 2008) |

Let's be realistic.......the Buell Lightning is what the 1955 Sportster should have evolved into, but didn't. I did the (retro) Sportster thing in '96: cams, head porting, Mikuni (Japanese!) carb, SuperTrapp 2 into 1 megaphone, etcetera. It was a FUN bike: 80 rwph, 12.0 @ 108 mph and a vibrating massage. I liked the bike very much, but it was very limited by old and obsolete technology. I wish I still had it, but really it was heavy, slow, and the vibes over 3 grand limited the cruising speed. Buell did the best they could with that engine, but a new day has dawned. If you want performance (instead of looks and sound), the 45 degree air cooled pushrod engine will not interest you. Still good for cruisers, but a handicap for performance riders. Hail the new V2 king: the 1125 Helicon and it's forthcoming variants. Long overdue, but now it's here! Buell takes a giant leap forward! Dave |

BMC used the HD motor for a long time. Each year they modified that Sportster motor a little more. Now the Thunderstorm motor is better, but the old Sportster hasn't evolved and is still around. If HD put the Thunderstorm motor in all the Sportster line, it's longevity is assured. As long as there's gasoline, HD will sell air-cooled V-Twins. If it stays at Buell only, it might be replaced by the Helicon. At least that's what Captain Obvious told me. Helicon will stay with Buell, V-Rod stays with HD. Zack |

Metalstorm Posted on Saturday, January 26, 2008 - 07:03 pm: This is the engine in which Buell stands on its own two feet. Since they don't really produce the engine, that seems a little overstated. Maybe standing with a walker, or just a crutch since they did help with design. |

I think the current V-Rod engine is better for the purpose of the V-Rod than the Helicon. . . . . . but put two Helicons side by side to make a 2250 cc 300 HP V-4 . . . I wouldn't buy one, but I bet there are a lot of Harley/Hayabusa/V-Max/Trimph Rocket/Honda Rune/ZX-14 fans who would be interested. |

harley needs to put that vrod motor in a shorter chassy...i'd be all ears if they could sink that in a sportster or dyna, and if they did it right, they'd have my money! Just something that handles like its supposed to! (Message edited by buellerandy on February 01, 2008) |

Can you imagine a Road King with that little Helicon sitting in that huge frame? You could stuff the radiators in there as well! |

Because of EPA standards on the rise, I think you'll find the V-Rod engine in a H-D in the very near future. H-D put a lot of money into that engine (Porsche engineers designed it), so it's safe to say that it will stick around for some time. |

>>>>I think you'll find the V-Rod engine in a H-D in the very near future. Hasn't the VROD motor been in a H-D for about 5 years? Porsche was part of the design team along with a group from PDC. |

"Hasn't the VROD motor been in a H-D for about 5 years?" Depends what "school" your from. I personally consider the V-Rod to be an H-D, some old school guys wouldn't admit it was a Harley for anything. I personally think you'll see them roll out a Dyna with the liquid cooled engine in it. |

Well, I would go for a Dyna Wide Glide with the VROD engine in it. To be honest, I would get the Wide Glide with the EVO in it too. Just something about that model that I like. Wait, did I just admit that on here.... |

The Dyna would need updates to the frame, suspension and brakes before I'd ride one with with a Revolution engine. I'm just saying.... |

I'm afraid just about any model in the H-D family would need updates before they put the Revolution motor in it. I would love to see a Touring bike with it though..... that would be one fast, and great riding bagger! |

You can turn a v rod into a bagger, go on the cycle visions web site and they have the parts to turn it into a bagger the one with the two headlights up front. |
