It is 10 degrees and snowing to beat the band out today but yesterday it hit around 60 degrees out so I took the ULY out to stretch it's legs. Started right up as always and I let er idle while I checked the tire pressures. The temps were dropping while I was riding to about 50 degrees. The last few miles it was lightly cold raining. Fan came on when I shut er down in the garage. Oil temp dipstick read 155 degrees. I've got the oil cooler covered with aluminum tape. It's almost a blizzard out right now. Sure glad I took the opportunity to ride yesterday. This winter really blows. |

Way to go Brother EG. Man, I would die without my daily ride fix. |

We only got to about 40 and it was raining. Today with wind chill about -35. Wish I could have gone for a ride. What's the hottest you have ever read the temp on your dipstick? |

Tredmarks said: "Man, I would die without my daily ride fix." Tell me about it! My bike has been in the shop 10 of the last 14 days (twice with same issue), and it is killing me! But that's another story. (Message edited by maximum on January 29, 2008) |

Maximum, What's the story with your bike? |

Dayum Max. Sorry bout the shop thingie. I hate shops. When I did the 1250 big bore kit on the Uly, it sat juggless in my garage for a few weeks. I just about rode the softail in the ground trying to get my daily fix. It is a sunny 75 here in the republic, and it's killing me to be inside while my Uly sits in the parking lot soaking up the sunshine. |

Hottest. Just guessing from memory. Probably 200 if that much. Normally during the warmer months it sticks around 180, occasionally up to 190. |

OK FB, if you really want to know the story...sorry EG for the hijack. Two weeks ago my Uly left me stranded for the first time in my one year and 22,000 miles of ownership. I was riding to work (with an outside temp of 10 degrees) and the check engine light came on. Next I notice that the speedo and tach are at zero. I made it about 10 minutes on battery power before total failure (5 miles short of work). I waited about 80 minutes for a tow...then 4 days before Sun HD/Buell even looked at it. They replaced the VR and said that it was good to go. This seemed odd to me, since I had the Stator and Regulator replaced in Alabama 5 weeks (and 1800 miles) prior. Two riding days and 90 miles later, the same thing happened while riding home from work at 10 pm (a toasty 23 degrees this time). 90 minutes later the tow truck arrived and took the bike back to Sun HD/Buell. The next morning, when I came in to sign the bike in for service, they knew that I was not happy. I told them that it was obviously NOT the regulator (maybe an effect, but not the cause), and that they should check the infamous "77 connector". Two days later they inform me that they found some bad pins in a connector and that it would take a week to get the parts in. So I am still waiting. I am not upset at the bike...it is a machine...and things happen. But I am ticked at Sun for misdiagnosing the real problem the first time (leaving me to be stranded again) and for showing no sense of urgency in regards to fixing my bike. Even after emphasizing to them that the Uly is my only means of transportation (I know...what kink of idiot lives in Denver and doesn't have a car) they still took their time getting to the bike and would not even consider having the parts expedited. Sorry about the rant...but I am in desperate need of a Uly fix...and besides, FB asked for it! |

I wonder how High Country would of handled it. I have never had a total failure but they always had the bike done the same day I brought it in and actually have more than 1 buell on the floor. That was important to me when i went and looked at buell and Sun didn't seem to interested in helping me out. But I did have issues with them(HC) when I had the belt issue back in 06. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15 2833&highlight=belt Other than my pinging its been pretty solid for the 10k I've put on it. Sorry to hear about that Max. Hope it gets resolved. |

In the past Sun has been slow, but the work was solid. High Country is about 20-25 minutes away, as opposed to the 10 minutes it takes to get to Sun. I thought about sending a PM to court to see if he could ask someone at the factory to encourage Sun to be a little more accommodating on this second repair attempt, but I decided not to bother Court with this issue. Next time I may have to give High Country a try for my servicing needs. |

Maximum, Sorry to hear of your troubles. For anyone else reading the thread, you can read more about the 77 connector here, thanks to Rays54. Don't worry, you and EG aren't the only ones out riding in awful weather. I've been commuting to/from work in sub-freezing temps for weeks now, enjoying what I hope is the twilight of the southern Germany winter. My commutes are made possible by an Aerostich Darien suit, WarmGear heated jacket liner, Symtec heated grips, and Hippo Hands bar muffs. One of the nice things about riding a Buell over here is the generally high quality of the dealers. Buell franchises here are not tied to H-D, and Buells are more popular, relatively speaking. So, Buell service is generally not an business after-thought. Bob |

Buell franchises here are not tied to H-D... Well wtf? Why can't we have that here? This is what drives me crazy. I've abandoned my worthless 10-minute-away dealer since they misdiagnosed and screwed up my stator/vr/77-pin failure. I spent 5 hours at a more reputable dealer 45 miles away yesterday while they diagnosed what I already knew, that my fuel pump and cooling fan were bad. And they don't stock the parts so I gotta go back so they can tear apart half my bike to fix it later. If I weren't scrapin' I'd spend the bucks and fix it myself. I have complete and total confidence in my own mechanical abilities, but it scares me to have even a reputable Buell/Harley shop working on it... Sorry for the rant EG, good for you getting out there! Weather here in SoCA has been bad but not that bad, I've been out in the storms riding my butt off this past week! |

Buell franchises here are not tied to H-D... I probably should have been a bit clearer... although most Buell dealers here are also H-D franchises, not all are. For example, I took my Ulysses test ride at Gerhard Mörk Motorradzentrum near Stuttgart, and I've had my first two services done there. They sell and service a lot of Buells, Ducatis, and everything else European-but-not-BMW, but no H-Ds. Great folks who take their Buells very seriously. I've also used CPO, another nearby dealer. Although they are HD-Buell, they take their Buells very seriously as well, as evidenced by their showroom presence and service staff. I guess my point is that German Buell dealerships just don't seem to have the same service issues and misplaced priorities that I see frequently reported here. Just my 0,02€. Bob |
