I am reading through the threads here and would like to know why do you trim the cam cover? does this help on performance? or just for looks? thanks Rick |

For racing, it's just dead weight without function, therefore by definition, should be removed. Also slightly easier access to things like front sprocket and oil pump/lines. |

I did mine for looks. It exposes the oil pump and oil lines. My lines are stainless steel. Kind of makes the right side of the motor a bit more "industrial". Brad |

If you trim yours, make sure to keep the dowel that helps the cam cover stay located correctly on the crankcase. I've heard (second hand, mind you) that the screws fastening the cover to the case won't keep it from shifting around without the locating dowel in place. I always had plans to trim mine, but it really doesn't add much weight, and it does help damp some of the audible mechanical thrashing from the bottom end... so I never did. It does look cool though and I understand it's very easy to do by yourself with handtools. |

http://www.bikernet.com/garage/sturgisbuell2001-2. asp Here's some pics. I was amused by this site. They used to do the "build a new chopper for Sturgis" thing, and the stories of new built bikes tossing their gas tanks in the riders lap as he passes a Semi truck in a mountain pass, & Jesse James creations needing to be welded back together at every gas stop break me up. The Cyclone had no problems..... till they ( spoiler deleted ) no fault of the bike. |
