I did a search and didnt come up with much. My drive belt started squeeking after i changed my rear tire. It wasnt bad at first, but now its worse. Dont know if thats because of the weather or not. The rear tire is aligned. Any ideas? |

And be sure it's not too tight as that makes things squeak that ought not----bearings and the like--- |

Make sure it is the belt as well. If you cant track it down to the belt, remove the belt from the front sprocket, put the bike in neutral, and spin the front sprocket by hand and feel for crunching, catching, or squeaking. If it is, it's bad, knowing and fixing it now is better then later. And better on an M2 then an XB. Run your belt scary loose by the way... |

ok, little update, i had some time off this morning since i injured my eye and it was swollen shut this morning. I sat on the bike while it was on the stands, felt down and pushed up and down on the belt a littl and it was squeeking then. Ill go ahead and take it off the front sprocket tomorrow. I hope its not the 5th gear shaft going out... |

Matt, By all means check your bearings. But on my 98s3, I also get squeaking, especially after washing. I found that polylube, available at your local Harley dealer works excellent. A little dab will do ya, and my tube has been lasting for many years. Brian |

yeah, i loosened up the belt, slid it off the front pulley, no crunching, squeeling or resistance. W000! put it all back together and sprayed some silicone on it. Thanks for the tip Brian, ill have to pick some up. Thanks everyone. Matt |

Alright, the stupid belt is squeeling at 50mph now, im going to spray more on it, should i be concerned. If i have to tear it down i want to do it now so im ready for march badness. When i spun the front pulley by itself, there was no resistance. I aligned the belt per the 1997 sevice manual by measuring to the end of the swing arm. Help? |

You may try altering the tension slightly, OR removing the belt, and flipping it over. The cord windings will make it track in the other direction, possibly eliminating the squeal. I personally prefer not to put any type of lube on the belts, as it attracts dirt, and dirt attracts wear. |

Try the polylube, it's made for our belts. Brian |

I agree I would not use any dressing on that belt. reversing it may help, the belt should have about 2" of slack, with the suspension unloaded, I would recheck the alignment the tollerence is +/ - .015" or 1/64 inch out of align will cause the belt to wander } |
