We had a small discussion about which one to use. Got that covered. I want to know if anyone here has gone with DUAL front rotors and is there really any advantage other than stopping power? Does the bike still want to stand up in a corner? More or less? |

From what I've heard, a single is plenty. Dual adds a lot of weight, increasing turn-in effort. It's also - again, from what I've heard - an example of more not always being better. Stands up in a turn, makes it more grabby at lower lever efforts.... Try a single EBC rotor and see how you like it. I rode to DC and back today and let me tell ya, you haven't lived until you've been on the DC beltway on a saturday, with a low winter sun reflecting off everything, and tons of winter crap on everybody's windows and mirrors. I'm happy with my EBC and stock pads. Next set will have EBC pads, but too much life left in these to just ditch 'em. |

Rex has a dual rotor set up on his bike, check out the photos in the M2 folder. |

I don't think you will notice much in handling but I think your overkill with the stopping power! It will put a whole new meaning to panic stop |

You will notice the handling. You will have LESS stopping power. Simple physics. Buell had, and abandoned, dual rotors for a very good reason. In addition, there was a kit in 1995 that was promptly discontinued. |

The NOS replacement is well in the 300$ range. I got a EBC rotor for sub 200$ and it is holding up so far with 8k on it... |

Thank you all for replying. Dont think I'll use my money on brakes. Maybe look toward the suspension and some track school to help me learn how to ride a bit better. |

Ive ridden with the 9 pin, 6 pin and the late multi pin....I prefer the rattly 9 pin...The later ones all seem to have alot of hard spots in the material which causes chatter and looks like sheet....Of course, my opinion only...Hb |

If you are going to run dual discs, it would make more sense to use smaller discs and 4 piston calipers (like current literbikes use) than to double the huge 340mm disc and 6 piston caliper that Buell uses. If I could get an entire front end off a GSXR, brakes and all, I'd try it on my tuber. |

All in all guys, clean fresh fluid and sintered pads can put you over the bars with a single disc as it is...money best spent elsewhere. My o/e 6 pin rattles like old bones but never fails to haul me down to sanity. |

When my original '99 X1 front rotor died I bought a Braking Wave disc from Al at American Sport Bike and fitted a pair of race pads. Instead of the huge grab when you first apply the brake, it is much more manageable and very progressive. Next up is a change of brake line, clean and rebuild the master cylinder and caliper and go to DOT 4 fluid. Never did like that DOT 5 crap. |

I have one of the discontinued dual disc set-ups in my parts stock, still in the packages. And have an aftermarket dual disc set-up on the bike now,ISR from Europe, works realy nice. |

Guell, the wave rotor works better than the stocker which I thought worked well. |

Fullauto, that is the setup I have now. I like it alot but wondered about the duals. Have yet to meet anyone with it to pick brains so I thought I'd try here. And of course, ya'll are on the ball. Love this place!! |

I think that the dual-disc bikes that I have brake a little smoother than the single on the Buell. That can be overcome by just a little better management of the application at the lever. It reminds me of when I took the MSF course with my son and we were riding Honda 250s with drum brakes. On the test where you had to stop in 25', it took me several attempts because I just couldn't squeeze the lever all the way to the grip like what was required. I told the instructor "If I did this on my Buell, I'd be laying on the ground with the bike on top of me". |

I have a dual disk set-up in the works for my S2. I obtained one of the (supposedly) 15 unobtainium left-side calipers made by Performance Machine for Buell. I went with Braking Rotors from American Sport Bike. I've so far only run a single of those disks with an adjustable ISR master cylinder and sintered pads- also from American Sport Bike - I forget the brand. Worked well, but with the bike fully loaded for sport touring I'd still like a bit more brake power. I ran into a problem mounting the left side rotor. The speedo drive is very snug against the rotor side of the wheel, and there is no room for the bolt heads of the mounting bolts. The original kit rotor has countersunk bolts and unfortunately the Braking rotor is for regular bolt heads. So I hit Aaron up for some of his masterly machining work, and he machined the Braking rotor to fit the original countersunk rotor bolts. It took a lot more doing than I briefly describe here, and Aaron did an absolutely perfect job. Thanks again Aaron. Keep in mind, that if you go with dual rotors, you need to change the master cylinder bore as well. The Buell kit came with a new master cylinder, but I opted for the ISR master for the nice design and adjustable lever. Oh, and I also switched to DOT 4 fluid and new braided lines. Well, I really use the "DOT 4.5" fluid, which has a higher boiling point than the older type DOT 4. I use it on my track SV and like it. Before I switched I could feel the brakes getting a tad spongy at the end of a good, fast session. It'll be until spring before I get the S2 back in street ready trim and will have a chance to test out the dual disks. Now, I have no doubt that Erik Buell is correct that dual rotors will negatively effect handling, not to mention what the added unsprung weight will do to the front suspension. But I'm hoping that it's more an issue at race pace (the S2 front end used to be the hot set-up for the first S1 race bikes), and that I wont notice it too much at more sane street speeds. We'll see. Henrik,my old friend,it was indeed the number I had heard back in the dark ages, but since have seen just too many on bikes and for sale for there to be only 15. |

Dark ages, eh ;) I guess it's been awhile. I'm coming up on my 10 year anniversary as a Buell owner and it'll soon be 9 years since you and I first met on Blue Ridge Parkway during BRATPAC I. Good times. Time flies. Henrik |
