Awesome, but it looks like you hit a yellow plastic bag while flying down the highway, but it looks good none the less. : )

Thanks Doe...I'm looking most forward to Black Hawk. RA is a little fast at least until I do some engine work and chain drive in a year or two.

Thanks Frog...I don't very much like the yellow either. However for amateur class the number plates have to be yellow. If you see white number plates, that's pro riders.

Welcome to the obsession!!

Don't let your stock drivetrain stop you from racing at Road America. You'll have a ball and have plenty of guys to race with. I'm running a stock 12 with the belt and wouldn't miss an opportunity to race there!!

Gear,
No doubt I'll be at RA also. As you said, it's a very sweet track!

Nice job Jason. I see you got your sliders, with no help from that Lazy S.O.B. who originally promised 'em. Oh wait, that was me : )

Nice job!
And remind me next time I see ya. I still owe you some $$ for that muffler.

Your bike looks GREAT!!
I'm jealous of how much fun you must have had bringing it back to life.

Have you taken the classes to get your racing license?

Rocket - Thanks for the pep talk brother! I will say this; I’m surely nowhere near the rider you are. I know I’ll be slow, but it’s going to be cool going out and improving.

Steve – Thanks Brother!!! As for the sliders, those were a set I was able to get real cheap. I’ve still waiting on my buddy to make the ones I want…so don’t feel back, it’s all good! As for the muffler money, I’m in no rush what so ever, so take your time. Riding season will be here before we know it and I’m sure we’ll being seeing a lot more of each other.

Cyclone – I paid about $1,500 for the bike. It’s an 2003 with about 5K mileages. Thing fired up like a champ just by changing out the battery right when I got it. As for the total into the bike, that’s a little hard to say. Was not as hardcore about keeping track. Plus I sold what I could, like selling the stocker muffler to Steve. I think with every thing added up plus minus what I sold / purchased including the price of the bike I’m at around $3K.

Wolf – It was GREAT fun building the bike!!! I had no idea how much fun it was going to be. I had a race / streetcar, 87 Buick Grand National w/ around 700 RWHP and that was nowhere near as much fun to work on. I think the fact that the car was my signal mode of transportation and I therefore had to keep it running had some thing to do with that. I enjoyed the project so much; I think I’m going to keep my eyes out for another bike to flip. It’d be nice to find a clear title that would be salvaged before it’s taken to the insurance.

In regards to the license, I’ve not gotten it yet. I’ll be getting that pretty early in this season. Plans for the season are to start slow and not jump in to a points race. Thinking license, track days and last test and tune days to get a lot of seat time.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and words of encouragement!!!

Jason

Boy, you're in trouble if you're slower than me!!

I know we have some mutual friends, so I'm sure I'll meet you sooner or later.
Right now, my bike is getting a 12 crank and other engine mods. Along with an Ohlins shock and rebuilt forks (springs too)
Bike won't be SS legal anymore, but they're are plenty of other classes to run.

Now I understand your screen name!

Licensing school is fun and intense but after it's over visit with your instuctor about what they think you should do, more track days or jump into a race weekend.

If you are going to call Blackhawk your home track you couldn't ask for a better place to learn since there is a huge Buell group there. They're all great folks and helped me immensely at my first race!! The great thing about the Blackhawk is they race Saturday and Sunday so pick one of the days to attend, enter two races, which will cost about the same as a track day and try it out. If you sign up the day of the event, you'll be gridded in the back rows but you'll probably surpise yourself as to how quick you'll pick up the pace!

Last year was my rookie year and I was only able to compete over three weekends but what a difference between the first to the third! I still did two track days last year but only because of the distance from home the races were (I race in the Great Plains region of CCS) and it gave me a chance to ride with some local friends who I'd been trying to get to the track. Now both are licensed racers getting ready for their rookie seasons in 2008!!

I've documented my experiences on my blog at www.racingwithralph.blogspot.com.

Ya man grandpas GN left egg on the face of a lot of V8s. It was great going to the track and pulling next to a caming V8. The GN comparatively was silent, that is until the HUGE, 27 PSI to be exact, rush of boost kicked in as I pasted them!

Jason,
Bike looks great! I am kicking myself for missing out on my own XB9R. $3900 for a completely "Race-Ready" unit. Couldn't get the scratch. When are you going to do the race licensing? I have talked to Rick at LCS and the first date at Blackhawk is May 10th. Myself and 3 others are planning on doing that class-want to join us? Let me know.

Bud,
I was thinking either May 10th or the 31st at Blackhawk. The 10th, weather wise concerns me a little. I don't think it's a guarantee that the weather will cooperate. What are your thoughts? It sure would be nice for us all to go together. If that happens, any chance I can get a spot on your trailer?

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
I agree on the weather but the earlier the better. I would use the 31st as a back-up. As far as the trailer goes I've got room for 6 bikes nose to tail. Should be no problem getting you on. To set things up with Rick all we have to do is email him that we are coming. Payment and paperwork are all done at the track. The cost went up a little this year. I think it's now $185.
