Question.

I am going to be back near Joplin Mo. January 31st and Feb 1st, and would like to take my S1 into their shop and have some things done to it while I am back in Oklahoma. (Miami is only 25 miles away).

These guys have been to the Homecoming before, and I was wondering if anyone here, knows who does the buell work there, so I can call and talk with him. I would like to set up the appt. and be ready, since I only have a couple of days in town.

thanks REX

Talk with Josh_cox here on the board. He is in that store and is a good guy. He can point you in the direction of who you would need to talk with there.

I just test rode an 1125R over the holiday break at that dealer. They are good folks and have a really nice selection of Buells.

It's a good shop. I don't think you'll have any worries.

Rex,

We'd love to see you come by. If you need some service work, give Tony a call in service. The number is 417-623-1054 ext 1, option 1. He is a XB12R rider who makes sure our Buell customers get treated right. If you have the bike in Miami, we can do pick up and delivery too so you don't have to sit and wait on it being worked on.

Thanks for the kind words, Ft_bstrd. You like the 1125R? I find it MUCH nicer in person. : )

Josh

I really enjoyed it. It was a short ride because it was friggin' freezing!

One thing that sucked was that I couldn't tell if it was running or not. I followed one of your guys on a giant black beast with a kit and straight pipes on it. I could barely hear myself think. : D

I like the looks of the bike. The color scheme is much better in person. I saw the "jugs" but wasn't repulsed by them.

"A nice selections of Buells" give me a break!
I live 50 miles from Joplin,Mo. and the "one" time I stopped in they wanted $136.00 (2hrs.)quoted from a Charles Doennig for a TPS reset on my X-1(took him 20 min.to look it up.)
The great big show room full of chrome is great if you own a bagger(though nothing is priced, you have to ask.)
The Buells are stuck in a cubby hole sized space covered with dust and not showroom presentable IMO, and when I was there I could not get much of any ones attention.
Year's ago when the MILLS had the H-D Kawasaki Cycle Connection shop on west 7th street they were a pretty decent dealer.
Want more?I have two buddies that had major issues with the service department and picked their bikes up half done and had them finished up elsewhere.

You been there lately?

I was there and saw three Rs, two SXs, three Ss, two Blasts, TWO 1125Rs (with no deposit on them), and an STT.

That's better than MY home dealership. The Buell area isn't large, but it is dedicated to Buell ONLY. IT was distinctly sport bike. I even bought a set of AStars gloves there. They also had a selection of AStars and Fieldshear jackets and pants.

I can't speak to the service department, but I do know that they have a racing team. I'm assuming that they finish races, so that would tend to indicate that SOMEONE there knows how to turn wrenches on Buells.

Don't know what happened with your experience. I can only describe what I saw first hand the last week in December 2007.

I was there three months ago in October.
The first case involved a friend of mine who had a minor accident with a car(the bike a 1200 Sportster didn't even go down)his insurance co. said to take it there because it's the closest dealer, minor damage, tank, air cleaner, handle bars and a few small parts.
He was told it would take 2to4 weeks to order the parts and install.
Over 2 months of waiting and it still no progress(they got the bars in but the wrong ones)he decided to fix it himself so he went down to pick it up and they wanted to charge storage fees and tried to charge him for the parts they ordered but couldn't get.

This past summer a local kid in town tried to change the gear case cover on his new Sportster and one of the cams pulled out with the case and he didn't know how to set the timing marks.
Loaded it up headed to Joplin, where he left it.
When they finally got around to looking at it they called him and told him all the cams where the wrong,(kinda funny he replied their the ones that came in the bike when he bought it new)
So he went to pick up his scoot and they charged him a diagnostic fee of about 200 bucks and they lost some of his parts to boot.
He took it to my neighbor and he reassembled it and the bike runs fine for having the "wrong cams."

Sounds like they suck at Harleys not Buells. : D

Don't know what to tell you. I've been to dealers that sucked at Buells but were good at Harleys. I've been to dealers that sucked at BOTH Harleys and Buells.

Weird.

Josh and tony. Just talked with Charles, and gave him what I would need done. I also emailed him the details, along with my phone number. Here is what the bike looks like.

It belonged to Jay Hawley from ATC. nickel plated frame, newer swing arm, polished, and a few engine mods. REX

I'll be back this summer. My in-laws live in Joplin, so I'm there at least once a year.

You got an extra bike? : D

I hope your used to a thin wallet because by the time your ready to leave this part of the country you might need X-tra money for gas just to get back home.

Well, I did, but my brother "took" it back. I had it parked in my garage because he couldn't get the time to throw it in storage, so I kept it for him but he found time.

I started a new job so I probably wouldn't be able to go anywhere anyway. I am in sales now so I have one day off during the week and Sundays, unless there is a big sale on Sunday or if we'd had a bad month.

We'll have to hook up. I didn't make it to Missouri at all last summer. This summer we are going to be there in June, but it will be a quick trip. I don't know about other times.

I'll look you up for sure. PM me your contact info, and I'll give you a shout!

cochise...cool, I wrote down you number...will give you a call....I will only be in town thursday and friday, then leaving on saturday.

will see if I can come over. I have a lot to do in a short time. I need to clean up around the house after the ice storm. still have lots of limbs to clear and cut down.

I have three bikes to get to dmv. a yamaha 250 enduro and the S1 to get over and have them look at the numbers on the frame and motor so I can my titles. then I need to take over my honda ft 500 for tag, title, etc. too. Lot of running back and forth in two days.

I am usually back and forth three or so times a year. Hopefully memorial day for decoration would give me some time too.

maybe one of these days we will get our home/cabin built on the lake in grove, retire and ride the oklahoma, arkansas, missouri hills everyday...ahahah, except when we have ice storms. last time there the ice storm hit, no electricity, flights cancelled, etc. that was when my wife said , do we want to move back, or just live in arizona where the weather is nice all of the time...we will see. will try and call you this weekend...rex

I know it was for only a second or two, but it was nice talking to you. I sold my first car today so I was kind of pre-occupied with it. All in all, I was at work 11 hours and ony made on sell, but I'll only get $100 from it. Just means I have to get after it on Monday even harder. If I can sell 3 this week I should be able to make a quick grand. As a matter of fact, there is a truck on the lot that pays $1000 if it sells.

here's a link to press release when they won an endurance race this summer

and...the bike they're racing on (with some serious modification/improvements/transplants from their XBRR) is my old racebike that i sold to them when i moved to china last year : )

Rex; You've got Suzie-Q! I watched that bike go from a running S1 to a pile of parts to what you now have. The frame was modified by Rowe Engineering prior to being Nickel plated. Jay put a LOT of work into that bike, and it was a really sweet ride when he got it finished. I hope you bring it to Homecoming. It's a great example of a customized Buell.
