Yesterday when leaving work and this morning when leaving to go to work my 12S did not immediately start as it normally does. It took a couple hits of the starter and backfired once before starting on both occasions. Any thoughts? Plugs? |

I would say you could look into your plugs if your that worried. seams more like it just had a fluke expericence. You battery might be a bit weak prevent it from firing on the first try, and then the additional fuel is cause it to pop. |

I'm wondering if it wasn't just a tank of bad gas. I filled up on my way into work the morning it happened the second time. That combined with the fact I posted here caused it not to happen last night when leaving work nor this morning on my way in to work. I just put a new battery in about a month ago too, so I doubt it's electrical. I guess it really must have been a fluke. The gas strikes me as strange too as I'm a creature of habit and buy my gas at the same BP station close to my home 95% of the time. |

check your battery terminal connections to make sure they did not get loose, seeing how it was just changed out. |

Isn't there an issue with some bolts being a bit too long and not snugging up on the battery? |

When I put that battery in I used the largest Phillips screwdriver I had and torqued the hell out of it. I can't imagine it's loose already, but I'll check. |

The point kmBuell was making is that with too long of a bolt, it would feel tight but, not be clamping the battery cables to the terminals. A fix was to put a washer under the head of the bolt. FWIW: battery terminals are pretty easy to strip so, watch get too happy with that big screwdriver. Later Neil S. |

This has happened to me twice. The first time I didn't know why it happened, I wasn't paying much attention. The second time it did it I know what I did. I was pressing the starter button and released it, by accident, for a split second and pressed it again. When I pressed the starter button the second time the motor was still turning over from the initial press of the starter button and it backfired a couple times. I stopped turning it over immediately, waited a few moment and it fired right up and ran great with no problems. |

Thanks all. It has yet to happen again, so I'll chalk it up to a fluke issue. Fortunately I was lucky enough to have some good Bueller buddies who warned me to add washers to the battery connectors when I put in a new one. |
