Seems alot of Buell dealers are being their own worst enemies. They tell the story of not being able to sell Buells, but then the try to sell them at way over list price.A Buell should be no different than any other mode of transportation, you should be able to buy it list,or BELOW........NOT...........2000$ above list.I for one may never own a 1125R,because I refuse to pay 1$ over list, knowing that list price should be enough profit for the dealers.

posted this in the other thread

-LOL im with you richieg
i put my deposit on my bike on july 19th, 12,6 OTD
well another dealer got one in earlier, about a month ago or so. i thought id go up and check it out, see it in person.
i call ahead, make sure its there, and head up there.

meet with the salesman i spoke with on the phone and i just sort of play dumb, listen to what he tells me etc. never tell him i already have one on order.

so after a while i say 'how much' he tells me 12k, i say 'well thats msrp, how much OTD?'
his reply - 14,5
1900 bucks more. rediculous

now i dont have a problem paying more than msrp when it comes to OTD price, but youre right, some places are charging almost 3k more than msrp OTD, thats insane

Go to Big Moose Buell in Maine and ask for Steve Dekuper and say mike sent you, he will sell you one for 12,200.00 OTD I got mine at 11,700 out the door, he was able to do a special deal with me that buell was offering 500 off and he gave it to me, but I got hit with taxes at the MA registry. Mike

I got one for MSRP + $0.00; no set up or transportation fees. Gainesville Harley is a cool place to buy from. It was also the first one they had available for retail sale.

Doesnt out the door also imply tax and title fees? Or even total amount financed, if not paid in cash? Also, I would imagine OTD means freight and setup, 750 or so as well.

Are we just confusing what OTD means?

msrp is 12k I paid 11,500 plus set up fee of 200 so 11,700.00 then got hit by my states 5% sales tax on the 11,700.00 and titall and licencing fees

my 12,6 is setup, tax, tags and title
thats what OTD is to me - the amount you pay for it to be completely legal onthe street (minus whatever your insurance is doing)

baggermike, hdfs and hd,buell dealer contracts require dealers to collect taxes title and tag fee if you buy in the state you live in. this policy started in early 90's to keep car/independt dealer from buying hds in there economic boom so that they can not be bought and resold as new thats. dealer is responsible for titling and turning in the taxes owe to the state. hope this make sense

HD started that at the same time they started requiring the buyer to physically (ever if the bike was being shipped) appear in person.

The reason Dave could do the "fly n' buy" but couldn't sell you one and ship it.

Big Moose took the $500 off, not Buell.

yes it makes sence but some states do not have tax and think that the price of the bike is advertised as 11,995 msrp so my dealer or any other dealer will charge this amount then add the tax and other stuff, I just think it is simpler to state the price of the bike, set up fee, and freight, taxes like insurance vary state to state and if you want to know the best price the dealer gives then I feel but could be wrong that it is the three, price of the bike, prep, and freight, all the other things vary and should not be used to determin cost of the bike, florida you can not get insurance, New Hampshire has no sales tax, and insurnace depends on were you live and your driving record, so to keep it simple just the price of the bike and dealer prep and freight should be used as the price paid. just letting you guys know- micah and crossroads are fantastic!
no BS, they know their stuff (esp when it come to buells) and super friendly.

would recommend them to anyone and i tell everyone about them.

when it comes to buying a buell, there are about 6 dealers or so within an hour of me - these are the only guys i actually trust with my bike. and they know what they are talking about, thats what makes it good. these guys ride, these guys race.

In Florida, insurance is not required, not you can't get it.

OTD = $$ paid including all taxes, paper work, cost of shipping, yada yada yada. The final cost to actually get the bike out the door of the dealership AND on the road legally.

What is with this "they hit me with taxes" thing? Do you not expect to pay taxes on a motorcycle? Taxes are nothing new and have been around for................ EVER! We should be happy that there is not a "luxury tax" on it.

For this definition then you also have to include the cost of insurance as you cannot, in most states, get the bike on the road without insurance.
Never mind OTD anyway. Mike is right, to compare what you paid for the MOTORCYCLE from dealership to dealership and state to state then you should only list the sales price, shipping and set-up fees.
Title fees and taxes go to the state regardless of who is legally libel to collect them. If your state titles for a small fee but the dealership charges a larger one, then yes you should add the difference.
A post about what state has the most favorable tax and title structure and lower insurance costs is not the same as a post such as this one where folks are probably looking to see which dealers are pricing the bikes fairly...
I can go to any dealership in the country and buy a 1125R and not pay sales tax - according to some of your definitions that means the same dealer ripped you off as you paid more OTD, which isn't a true or a fair statement.

If you buy the bike outside of your home state then you will pay the taxes at time of registration. As far as insurance goes, MOST dealers will not let you take the bike off of their property until it is properly insured. Especially if it is financed. Have none of you ever bought a car or motorcycle before?

its pretty easy..ask how much otd that should mean all of the dealer add on prices included...out the door how much is it going to cost me to roll this bitch out of here and ride it home...my CBR was on sale for 8.900 first thing i asked was how much otd...price changes a wee bit...but no suprises when i got there.

NH has no sales tax, I would never pay sales tax!!!!! NH does not require proof of insurance to register a vehicle. It would be stupid to not insure it, but it would not be required (assuming you do not have a loan).
What was said to make you think that any of us aren't aware of what it takes to get a vehicle on the road in our own states?
We are trying to compare what you paid to your dealer for the bike, not compare which portion of the country is more or less expensive to live in.
Did you miss this?

A post about what state has the most favorable tax and title structure and lower insurance costs is not the same as a post such as this one where folks are probably looking to see which dealers are pricing the bikes fairly...

I'm not buying one, so I'll butt out now, but if I were all I would want to know from you guys is the price of the bike, shipping, set-up and any paperwork fees not required by the state. I was just trying to support Mike's point that everyone seemed to be missing.....

Thanks Scott, atleast some one understands the concept of the dealers pricing on the bikes without all the added fee's that vary from state to state and does not tell what the dealership really sold the bikes for. I hope you can you can show me some more good roads up there when the weather gets good, I also will be at N. E. D. to see how I do with this bike. Mike

Beach's point, and mine was, the question should not have been about OTD if TTL are not included.

OTD includes freight, setup, applicable tax, title and license.

If you call the dealer and ask how much they will sell the bike for, do not be upset when OTD costs you 750 in freight and setup and nearly 1000 in TTL. The dealer is not ripping you off. (depending how you view freight and setup)

OK I paid 11,500.00 for the bike, and a set up fee of 200.00, and deliverd to my door from over 100 miles away for another 100.00. I would say that is out the door and into mine. Mike

Yes, this is what OTD means. How can you not have the OTD purchase price include sales tax? Do you not incur sales tax, whether or not you pay the sales tax directly to the dealer or to the state at a later date? I don't get it.

tax, tags and license fees are different for every state and sometimes counties and cities within the state. the tax is based on purchase price. i got the impression that the original premise was dealer markup over list. doesn't matter which vehicle you spend 12,000 on, the tax is the same. the 1125R (IMO) is worth what i spent on it.
