I tried to start my 1125 a few minutes ago, I get "theft error" when I turn the key on. I do not think anyone has been near the bike and I do not see any signs of tampering. I have never entered a PIN into this bike, so it is not a lock out problem. I called the closest dealership and they have no idea. |

Maybe you were playing with the settings and turned it on on accident? Its pretty easy to change it on and off if your just in there pushing buttons. I have that problem with my display brightness, I always change it on accident. |

Does the bike start and run? |

It will not even turn the display lights on now. I reset the service counter on Wednesday after I changed the oil, but I have ridden it since then. The last time I started it was Friday. I have not messed with any of the display since I reset the counter. I am loading it up and taking it to the dealer, they can call Buell in the morning and figure it out. |

Check your owners manual, I recall reading something about that error. |

The dealer found the problem, it was the battery. They said it had a broken bar inside. |

Great to hear it's something simple; I thought maybe low voltage might trigger the error, then when you said you had no dash at all it sounded like the battery was dead. |

I am happy it was simple also, kinda worried that if there is another low voltage issue the bike needs to be rest by the dealer again. That sucked, even though it could have been much worse. This bike started fine two days earlier, in fact the starter on the 1125 has always spun the engine faster than the XB starter did. I guess the battery died on the last ride and it was running on alternator when I shut it off. |

Tuono Joice's Aprilia would turn the engine over nicely and still not fire [on a NEW battery!] after 8 years of listening to the M2 crank & fire immediately, what did I know? an Aprilia dealership master mechanic who was walking by my garage [no kidding] said, "lo battery" further, "these fuel injections require full voltage to work" so FastEd unzipped my Kragen's M/C jumper cable bag & connected the Tuono & M2 - bingo !! ya gotta think the 1125R's mill would act more like an Aprilia than a tuber..... file this anecdote away for troubled 1125R starting moments [AFTER you pop for those tidy cables] |

I got the bike back on Monday of last week, rode it to work and back Tuesday and Wednesday. It rained Thursday so I left it at home. Friday the battery was dead again. I charged the battery Friday, rode it Saturday, then did not ride yesterday. This morning the battery is dead again. I charged the battery again and took it to the dealer tonight. They said it was charging before they gave it back to me last week. I hope they find whatever is wrong with it. The reason I did not get the error again is the tech turned the security system off when he was working on it (I asked them to) it was on when I bought the bike, I did not know that the PIN countdown was not a normal function. Oh sure I know it sounds silly now, laugh all you want... anyway, the moral of this story is with the security system on, and low battery voltage.... you gots to see Mr. HD to get it fixed, I think anyway. Wonder if anon wants to give his .02 on this |

The tech said it was the voltage regulator, he ordered some ( the first bike they just received has same issue) then installed a new one and told me the bike was ready. I go get it and on the way home I notice that the engine doesn't respond to my turning the throttle grip. There is nearly a quarter rotation before I get the engine to go above idle. I get to take it back again tomorrow. What fun we are having! |

I started the engine this morning, expecting it to be like the last time it ran. It is back to normal again. I rode it to work, let it cool. Started it again a few hours later and let it warm up again... still responds to throttle normally. I don't know what happened, but I am happy it went away, for now anyway |

Try checking the TPS Voltage in Diag mode. Post your upper/lower bounds and we can compare notes. |

I've had a number of what appear to be ECU generated problems. Engine warning almost every time I ride. Dealer says "it's under warranty, just ride it", so I have. Last ride, temp ran a bit hot (6500 rpm, 3rd/4th gear), I backed off a bit until temp dropped, then ignition cut out a few times for a second or so (kinda freaky at 75 in traffic). I've also gotten voltage warnings during recent rides. Yesterday when I tried to start it, I got the "theft error" code, and can't get it to start. Are these symptoms of a bad ECU, voltage regulator, or battery? Hate to say it, but I'm losing confidence in the bike's dependability. (2008 1125R) |

Jeff: You are having some electrical issues. 1st try to hook up a battery tender and see if that helps. If the issue persists, then it's one of the charging/ storage components or, it might be an IC electrical drain issue. Any of these issues are well documented and can be diagnosed by a Buell Tech. Also make sure that the battery connections are good and tight... A loose connection can cause many issues. |

Battery connection and charge not the problem. Turns out (as suspected all along), the patient needs a brain transplant. Bad ECU. Dealer has stepped right up and ordered a new ECU and I should be good to go by the weekend. Hopefully problem solved. Stay tuned..... (Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you) |

Theft Error caused by short in harness leading to ECU. Final prognosis was that two leads to ECU were shorted. After complete replacement of wiring harness, problem solved. Now she runs like she's supposed to - strong and wants to go fast. All is well with the world. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Had the bike sitting for a few weeks and went to turn it on and had the same "theft error" issue. Battery seems to be the issue on mine as well. Whew. |

I just got the same error, I think it's also due to my battery. it was dead, and I was able to charge it enough for the lights to come on when I turn the key, but now get this error. Does this have to be cleared by a dealer? |
