A while back I picked up a bunch of new Uly screen & inst sub-assembly bits. I've just completed the 'conversion' & can recommend it to anyone interested. The only minor hitchs were;- Having to go find/buy a #45 tamper-proof Torx bit. Having to make up a suitable blanking plug for the open power socket hole as I dint want a socket. Having to slightly enlarge the blinker locater holes (near the bolt-up holes) to accept the larger dia lugs off the plastic TT blinker stalks ~ or ya could find a pair of the shorter hollow Uly mount stems. These were prolly the only parts my purchased 'kit' was missing. Otherwise it was a relatively simple methodical exercise. The end result is great (afaic, ymmv). It gives enough extra wind deflection to take most of the load off my arms & arthritic hands; It lets me roll the bars back to a more comfy/natural position because the brake hose is no longer nailed to the rear of the subframe, so there's a bit more length available; The presence of the screen & higher inst panel also eliminates that feeling ya gonna fall out the front of the bike coz there's nothing there! I also think that the bike looks MUCH better. Cheers BrooC DownUnder |

Can you post a photo? I'm looking at a Cee-Bailey but this might be better but I'd like to see it and then I'll have to look in to the price for all the stuff. |

Brooc, thanks for the pictures and the write up. In checking out your pictures, it seems like this, along with a lower bar for my XBS would make a great sporttouring arrangement that could keep the wind off of me. Would you happen to have the part numbers? "Partslist is as follows. Clear topscreen & solid/coloured mainscreen, plus 4 pairs of the black nylon gubbins that snap them together. 6 small stainless allen cap screws to hold the screens to the subframes .. .the partsbook showed steel washers but I fitted black butinol (soft) ones under the screen for a bit of 'give', & clear nylon ones under the exposed screwheads. Top/dashboard panel that the common inst pod mounts to. Two side subframe/panels that bolt to either side of the top dash, & also carry the blinker stalks. An internal steel crossmember that bolts between the side panels & carries the top mounts of the lights, also the horn support bolts to it. As described earlier you can remount the TT blinker extensions by relieving the locating holes near the bolt holes, or get the two shorter Uly hollow blinker mounting stubs .. . easy either way. Thats about it .. . . quite a simple swap once you get ya head around which way the bits fit (especially the hidden internal steel crossmember bit .. . I undid all the electrical connections to make room, & upon re-assembly you find that there is then a lot more spare room behind the larger screen for all the wiring harness bits etc. During the job would be a good time to tie-in to a 12v supply for radar or heated grips. Speaking of power, the Uly 'dash board' has a big hole for mounting an accessory power socket .. . I didnt want this so made up a bolted steel cap/plug to fill the hole. The screen I happened to score was black . . initially (& still mebbe in the future) my plan was to paint all the other trim black anyway .. . but now I kinda like the way the black screen disolves into the bikes framework while the white still stands out as the primary colour. If I ever go for painting the other panels black, the highpoint will be some special gold-leaf decals in the manner of old 'HRD-Vincent' ones, but having 'American HD Vtwin' instead! If you go ahead with it mebbe keep the part numbers & post em on BWB list, I'm sure it'ld be a popular swap. FWIW & IMHO a Uly-screened TT is a better bike than a Uly anyway, the Uly just has extra height thru longer-travel suspension to make it seem like an 'Adventure' bike, but anything with those small fat tyres ua DONT wanna be offroad on, so why have the higher 'trail-esque' bars (that make ya sit up tall in the wind, with a sore back!) just because the bike is configured to sell in the Adventure market bracket? HUMBUG! Another worthwhile mod is to fit a normal Lightning seat in place of that weird TT seat .. .the Lightning one is softer, wider, comfier, & about an inch lower to further improve the ergos." Here they are.
