My speedometer works fine except for "spirited" acceleration. The needle sweeps wildly up and down, and only catches up when I'm not revving hard.

I cleaned off the metal shavings last night, but the issue still remains. I understand the frequency factor as discussed in other posts, but I have a stock exhaust / intake so I'm not sure that is the issue.

Should just bite the bullet and buy a replacement sensor with the upgraded part number, or would the cell phone resistor mod take care of this?

Usually when the thing fails due to voltage spikes, it goes in and out one or two times, and then stays dead forever. It sounds like you might have something else going on...

I would check connections and grounds first...

Thanks Reepicheep!

I followed the sensor wire to where it plugs in, and it looked fine. I pulled off the connector and where the wires had been bent to fit in with the other mass of wires in that area, a little bit of the shielding was missing on the red wire - electrical tape, then more around all 3.
Problem is gone

Keep wiggling until it gets better, or you break it : ) That's my approach.
